Lady Chaps face Dustdevils for chance to advance to Championship game

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 28, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University softball continues postseason play facing five-seed Texas A&M International at 10 a.m. Friday in the Heartland Conference Tournament hosted by one-seed St. Mary's in San Antonio. All games will be played at The Softball Stadium inside The Park at St. Mary's on the campus of St. Mary's University. The winner will advance to the Championship game scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The loser will play an elimination game later Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.

LAST GAME
The Lady Chaps advanced to the second round after defeating three-seed Oklahoma Christian on Thursday. The five-seed Dustdevils defeated four-seed St. Edward's 6-5 in the opening game of the tournament on Thursday then came back that night to beat the host and one-seed Rattlers of St. Mary's 4-3 to reach the game against LCU.

AGAINST TAMIU
The Lady Chaps first faced the Dustdevils in 2014, their first year as members of the Heartland Conference sweeping that first series on the home soil of PlainsCapital Park. LCU won two of three games in Laredo last season and now hold the all-time advantage at 8-1.

PRIOR MEETING VS. TAMIU
LUBBOCK, Texas (April 16, 2016) – Four home runs lead to an 8-2 Lubbock Christian University softball victory over Texas A&M International Saturday at PlainsCapital Park to complete the three-game Heartland Conference series sweep.

HOME RUNS
Lindzi Clemmer was the first batter of the game for LCU (39-11, 16-5), and she hit a bomb over the left field fence to give the Lady Chaps the early lead. The Dustdevils (22-30, 10-11) responded in the top of the second inning scoring two runs to take the lead. In the bottom of the second Clemmer tripled to score Sydney Beuthien and Ashton Bell singled down the right field line to plate Clemmer. In the third Morgan Colburn scored on a hit by Beuthien to put LCU up 4-2. Bell and Colburn both homered in the fourth inning to add two more runs for the Lady Chaps. Katera Eltsosie hit a two-run rocket over the left field fence in the sixth for LCU's final two runs.

IN THE CIRCLE
Now that the Lady Chap women's basketball season has come to a close, Kelsey Hoppel (1-0) got her first start of the season. Hoppel went five innings allowing only two runs off four hits to earn her first win this year. Katlyn Holmes came in to throw the last two innings for LCU allowing no runs off two hits. Delainy Thompson (10-13) started in the circle for TAMIU throwing five and one-third innings giving up eight runs on 11 hits to suffer her 13th loss of the season. Krystal De La Cruz came in to throw the final two-thirds of an inning for TAMIU allowing one hit.
