SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 28, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University softball has advanced to the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship Game facing host and one-seed St. Mary's at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Softball Stadium inside The Park at St. Mary's on the campus of St. Mary's. If St. Mary's wins the two teams will play the 'if necessary' game immediately following.
LAST GAME
The Lady Chaps advanced to the championship game after defeating five-seed Texas A&M International on Friday. The one-seed Rattlers had to play through the losers bracket defeating three-seed Oklahoma Christian 9-1 and immediately followed by beating five-seed Texas A&M International 4-1 to reach the Championship Game.
AGAINST StMU
The Lady Chaps first faced the Rattlers on February 22, 2013, winning that contest 6-3. Since that day LCU has lost eight of the next 11 meetings.
PRIOR MEETING VS. StMU
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 2, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University claimed the third game of the series 5-1 against St. Mary's Saturday at the Softball Stadium inside The Park at St. Mary's.
ELTSOSIE
Katera Eltsosie got the Lady Chaps (34-9) on the board first with a bomb over the left-center field fence in the second inning.
Katlin Reed and
Lindzi Clemmer both reached home in the third inning to give LCU a 3-0 lead. Hannah Fields scored a run in the bottom of the third for St. Mary's (31-8) only run of the game. In the top of the seventh inning the Lady Chaps plated two more insurance runs with
Sammie Murrietta driving in pinch runner
Baylee Goolsby from first base on a double down the left field line. The Lady Chaps would have the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly by Clemmer that would score Murrietta from third.
HOLMES
Katlyn Holmes (15-3) got the start for the Lady Chaps going the distance allowing only one run off eight hits while striking out five Rattlers. Hope Russell (6-4) got the start for StMU going only three innings surrendering three runs off four hits. Ashley Mills came in relief for the second time in the series going four innings allowing two runs off four hits.
