How It Happened
Set One:
LCU led the opening set 12-10 before a 4-0 run capped by a
Channing Stewart kill provided a 16-10 LCU advantage. The tide shifted from there, with a 10-4 Rattlers run leading to a knotted up match at 20-20. The teams were nack-and-neck the rest of the way and LCU was unable to capitalize on three set-point serves, while St. Mary's claimed the set 29-27 on their second set-point serve of the set. LCU fell in the set despite 17 kills, led by four each from
Camille Porco and Stewart. StMU, led by a seven-dig performance in the set by Mandee Eberle, received four kills in the set from Channing Hawkins and MacKenzie Harless.
Set Two:
The second set featured a tone similar to the first set, with the teams split. StMU led 18-11 in the set before LCU would rally with a 13-4 run for a 24-22 lead before winning the set 25-23. StMU lost the set despite 18 kills, with Eberle pounding seven of the kills.
Lauren Zoller,
Avery Moore and Porco each co-led LCU in the set with three kills.
Set Three:
A trio of Rattlers blocks opened the third set leading to a 5-1 early lead for StMU. Zoller capped a 7-3 run with an ace for LCU to tie the set at 10-10. StMU regained the lead and extended it to 20-16. LCU rallied back and moved within one point on four occasions before Hankins produced three of StMU's final four points off kills to claim the set 25-23. Jaycie Pluenneke claimed seven kills in the set for StMU, who had a 16-14 kills advantage in the frame. Stewart led LCU with five kills in the set.
Set Four:
LCU trailed 15-11 and 20-16 before a trio of Rattlers attack errors and a pair of kills from
Emily Hanaway led to an 8-1 run for a 24-21 LCU lead. They won the set 25-23. StMU had a 15-9 advantage in kills (five in the set by Hankins), but LCU thrived off five serving aces (three by
Brynn Warnack). Hanaway led LCU in the set with four kills.
Set Five:
