How It Happened

Set One:
Lubbock Christian opened up the match taking advantage of St. Edward's self-inflicted wounds in the set.  With the score tied 7-7, LCU received a pair of kills from Emily Hanaway to jumpstart a 3-0 run, which was part of a 11-3 scoring dash by LCU for an 18-10 lead. The Hilltoppers committed five attack errors during the LCU run. LCU went on the close the set on a 7-2 scoring advantage for a 25-13 set win.  SEU registered an attack percentage of -.265 in the set with 10 attack errors. They had one kill as a team in the set. LCU was led in the set by Emily Hanaway (four kills) and Kelsie French (eight digs).

Set Two:
The momentum continued at the start of the second set, with LCU receiving three kills from Zoller to help the Lady Chaps jump out to an 8-1 lead. SEU cut the deficit down to 9-5 before LCU held them off and used a 6-1 run to take a 21-11 lead. The set wasn't in the bag, as SEU went on a 9-2 run and it took LCU a seventh set-point serve to get the clinching 25th point, which came via a combo block by Jaiden Kennedy and Avery Moore. LCU won the set 25-21 with 16 kills and a .297 attack percentage. Zoller produced six kills off 10 attempts in the set.

Set Three:
The thrilling final set featured six lead changes. Neither team led by more than three points (margin) until LCU fell behind 20-16.  SEU built the lead to 21-16 and 23-17 before LCU produced a monster comeback. The Lady Chaps received four kills from four different individuals and went on a 7-0 run leading to match-point leading 24-23. SEU dodged the clinching point, but was unable to take advantage of three consecutive set-points to force a fourth set. Tied 27-27, LCU put the match away with an ace by Camille Porco, followed by SEU's 30th attack error to provide LCU a 29-27 set win. Each team had 38 digs in the set, with Fench (14) and McKaley Johnson (10) combining for 24 in the set.
