Along with Stewart's offensive contributions, the Lady Chaps also received double-double performances from
Brynn Warnack (39 assists, 11 digs) and
Lauren Zoller (11 kills, 10 digs), and a season high 34 digs from
Kelsie French. DBU had a pair of double-double performers as well, with Strealy Sizelove (22 assists, 16 digs) and Alexa Lezak (17 digs, 11 kills).
How It Happened
Set One:
The Lady Chaps took the big lead early, using a pair of kills from
Lauren Zoller to take a 9-3 advantage. They led as much as 14-7 before DBU creeped back scoring 12 of the next 17 points to tie the set 19-19. It was a see-saw the rest of the way, until LCU tallied the final two points off a DBU attack error and a set-clinching kill from
Avery Moore to give the Lady Chaps a 1-0 match lead off a 25-23 set win. LCU used a 13-9 kill advantage in the set, with five players registering at least two kills in the set. They also received 10 digs from
Kelsie French.
Set Two:
LCU rattled off the first six points (6-0), with
Jaiden Kennedy getting in the offensive mix with a pair of kills, but DBU had a strong answer with a 9-3 rally to tie the set 9-9. DBU led 20-17 before LCU bounced back with a 4-0 run capped by an ace from
Brynn Warnack for a 21-20 lead.
Lauren Zoller clinched the set closing a 4-1 run with a kill for a 25-22 set win.
Channing Stewart produced five kills in the set, as LCU produced 16 in the set (Kennedy had four kills).
Set Three:
LCU played from behind most of the third set after DBU opened the set with a 6-3 advantage. LCU eventually tied the match at 9-9, 11, 14-14, 15-15 and 17-17 before a solo block by
Camille Porco led to an 18-17 LCU lead. It went back and forth until the score was tied at 24-24, and that's when a kill by DBU's SidneeJo Pitzpatrick and a LCU attack error led to DBU winning the set 26-26 to force a fourth set. Stewart led LCU with five kills, while Alexa Lezak led DBU in the set with four kills.
Set Four:
An 8-1 run by the Lady Chaps helped LCU jump out to a 12-5 advantage in the fourth set. Porco manufactured three kills during the run. Trailing 17-11, DBU would make a late charge. They scored the next three points and used a 7-3 run to cut LCU's lead to 23-22. Any thoughts of a fifth set were erased as back-to-back kills credited to Stewart won the set (25-22) and the match (3-1) for LCU. The kills also provided Stewart with seven in the fourth set. French had 13 of LCU's 29 digs in the set.
