Box Score 1 TUCSON, Ariz. (February 18, 2017) – On day two of the Second Annual D2 Cactus Classic in Tucson, Ariz. Saturday the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps won game one 13-4 in a run-ruled shortened contest over the Academy of Art before Mother Nature caused the second game to be postponed.
THIEF
Leadoff batter
Courtney Medina drew a walk then promptly stole second base for her team-leading 15
th stolen base. The next batter
Casey Ingram doubled down the line to put LCU (13-2) on the board first.
Lindzi Clemmer followed with a 14-pitch at-bat that resulted in a walk before she too partook in the thievery and stole second base.
Sydney Beuthien hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to plate Ingram then
Alyssa Hanks followed with shot through the left side to plate Clemmer. Hanks would come around and score when the Academy of Art (5-5) second baseman dropped a fly ball to cap the scoring in the first inning with the Lady Chaps up 5-0.
EIGHT IS ENOUGH
The Urban Knights managed two runs in the second inning before Lubbock Christian unleashed eight runs in the fourth inning. The scoring started with a double by
Annika Schwartzenberg who led off the inning followed by a double form senior catcher
Roxy Curiel.
Haley Hardison came in clutch with a pinch hit that scored both Schwartzenberg and Curiel. Clemmer then doubled to centerfield to bring home another run. AAU changed pitchers and the first batter she faced, Beuthien, hit a bomb into the wind over the left field fence to bring two more runs across.
Addison Ard's pinch-hit shot through the left side brought home
Alyssa Hanks and
Adelae Vayas before Academy of Art changed pitchers again.
Shelby Welch then drove a ball through the middle to score Ard and put the Lady Chaps up 13-2. The Urban Knights would get two more across the plate in the heavy rain of the fifth inning to complete the scoring.

IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie (7-0) started in the circle for LCU going the distance allowing only two earned runs while striking out four along the way. For Academy of Art Hannah Rose Balke (3-2) lasted 3.2 innings allowing nine runs off nine hits before giving way to True Park who faced four batters giving up four runs on three hits without recording an out. Katie Tablada closed out the game for the Urban Knights facing four batters and allowing a hit before recording her only out.
MOTHER NATURE
The rain that came in heavy late in game one caused the tournament staff to postpone game two against Fort Lewis to Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (CST) and cancel the game against the University of Mary originally scheduled for that time.
