Lady Chaps Split with No. 3 Rattlers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LUBBOCK, Texas (March 10, 2017) – Once again errors are costly for the No. 20 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals who fell in game one 7-4 to No. 3 St. Mary's University before rebounding and taking game two 8-5 at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus Friday evening to end their five-game skid.
 
EARLY
The Lady Chaps (17-7) jumped on top early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning when Alyssa Hanks doubled to bring Courtney Medina and Casey Ingram home. St. Mary's (18-6) chipped away scoring one run in the second inning and another in the third inning before taking a 5-2 lead with three runs in the fourth inning, two of which came from a Lady Chap fielding error.
 
TOO LITTLE
LCU mounted a come back in the fifth inning plating two more runs with the first coming when Katera Eltsosie drove the ball up the middle to score Sydney Beuthien followed by Roxy Curiel driving in Alyssa Hanks to make it a 5-4. The Rattlers would get two more runs in the sixth courtesy of another Lady Chap error to go up 7-4.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Eltsosie (8-3) went the distance in the circle in game one for LCU allowing only three earned runs off 10 hits striking out six to suffer her third loss of the season. Jordan Russell (8-2) got the start for StMU going 4.2 innings allowing four runs on five hits walking five to notch her eighth victory before giving way to Ashley Mills (3) who came in to pitch the final 2.1 innings giving up two hits and striking out four to earn her third save of the year.
 
LONELY
In game one the Lady Chaps left eight runners stranded on the bases. The only time leaving more this season coming back on Feb 11th in the win over No. 2 Southern Arkansas when they left 15.
 
FIRST
Once again in game two the Lady Chaps jumped out to an early lead plating three runs in the first inning and once again it started off the bat of Hanks who doubled to score Ingram. Lindzi Clemmer double later in the inning to bring in Hanks and Beuthien to put LCU up 3-0. In the third inning the Lady Chaps added four more runs starting with pinch runner Shelby Welch and Beuthien scoring off the bat of Addison Ard. Logan Grado would follow with shot to right field plating Clemmer and Ard giving Lubbock Christian a 7-0 lead after three innings of play.
 
TOO CLOSE
The Rattlers scored a run in the fourth inning and another four runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 7-5 game. The junior from Era, Texas, Sydney Beuthien, came up in the bottom of the fifth and hit a monster shot over the centerfield fence for her team leading seventh home run of the year to give LCU an insurance run and the 8-5 lead.
 
RELEIF
Monique Garcia (7-4) started in the circle for LCU going five innings allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out six to earn her seventh win of the year. Katlyn Holmes came in to relieve Garcia and pitched the final two innings giving up no hits and striking out two earning her NCAA-leading fourth save of the season. Mills (4-1), got the start for the Rattlers lasting only 2.1 innings giving up seven runs on seven hits with one strike out to suffer her first loss this year. Kristi Rangel pitched the final 3.2 innings allowing one run on two hits striking out three Lady Chaps.
 
TWO
In game two Clemmer had two of the teams nine hits as the only Lady Chap with multiple hits. Clemmer, Ard and Grado each drove in two runs in the game, as well.
 
RUBBER MATCH
