Lady Chaps Host No. 8 Angelo State

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 13, 2017) –The No. 20 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals take on No. 8 Angelo State at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus for another top-25 matchup Monday with the first game of the double-header scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
 
LCU LEADERS
The Lady Chaps are leading the Heartland Conference in batting average and ranked 18th nationally (.339). LCU also leads the conference in doubles per game (1.68), On Base Percentage (.407, 28th in the nation), Scoring (6.5, 28th in the nation) and Stolen Bases per Game (1.64). The Lady Chaps sit 38th in the nation in slugging percentage (.487) and sit second in the conference behind Rogers State (.489). Sydney Beuthien continues to lead both LCU and the Heartland Conference in batting average (.425), doubles (7), hits (30), slugging percentage (.808), runs-batted-in (27, 23rd in the nation) and total bases (59, 28th in the nation). She also leads the team with nine multi-hit games and sits 27th in the nation with 7 home runs. Courtney Medina leads the Lady Chaps and the Heartland Conference in stolen bases (19). In the circle, Katera Eltsosie leads the Lady Chaps and sits second in the conference with an 8-3 record and a 2.78 earned run average. Monique Garcia leads the Lady Chaps with the most innings pitched (68). Katlyn Holmes is tops on the team with four saves this season placing her in a tie for the most in the nation.
 
ANGELO STATE
The Rambelles come in 13th in the nation hitting .352 as a team and have the 15th best Earned Run Average in the nation (1.63). Angelo State also sits in the top 10 nationally in several other categories, as well: .598 slugging percentage (6th), 1.36 home runs per game (6th), on base percentage .458 (6th) and eight runs per game (7th). They come into the Hub City riding a 20-game win streak.
 
PREVIOUS MEETING
SAN ANGELO, TEXAS (March 2, 2017) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps were swept by No. 17 Angelo State 10-0 and 7-1 at Mayer Field in San Angelo, Texas on Thursday.
 
A walk, a hit batter, a squeeze play, an errant throw and a home run found LCU (16-4) behind 4-0 after one inning of play with only one hit allowed. The Rambelles (19-1) added another four runs in the second inning off two more squeeze plays and another home run to go up 8-0 at the end of the second inning. ASU would plate their final two runs in the third inning.
 
Katera Eltsosie (8-1) got the start for the Lady Chaps lasting two innings giving up eight runs on six hits and walking three batters to suffer her first loss of the season. Cassie Sutton came in to pitch the final two innings allowing two runs off two hits. Brandy Marlett (8-1) started for the Rambelles going four innings allowing only one hit and striking out seven Lady Chaps to earn her eighth victory of the year.
 
In game two, all but three of the eight runs scored in the game came from girls who reached via a walk. ASU scored a run in the first inning when Kenedy Urbany scored after being issued a two-out walk to put Angelo State up 1-0. The Rambelles would add another run in the third inning before a two-out walk in the fourth inning led to another run to put ASU up 3-0. Two more free bases given to Angelo State and a home run led to four more runs in fifth inning before a walk issue to Sydney Beuthien in the seventh inning followed by an Alyssa Hanks double kept the Lady Chaps from being shut out on the day.
 
Monique Garcia (6-3) started in the circle for LCU going 4.1 innings allowing five runs on five hits walking four suffering her third loss of 2017. Katera Eltsosie went the final 1.2 innings giving up two runs on one hit walking another two Rambelles. Urbany (7-0) went the distance for ASU allowing only one run on three hits striking out four on her way to her seventh victory of the season.
