Lady Chaps Need Two Wins to Repeat

LCU needs to defeat St. Mary's twice Saturday to repeat as Conference Champions

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 6, 2016) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals advanced to the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship Game having to play through the losers bracket, defeating No. 3-seed Oklahoma Christian on Friday 3-0. The No. 1-seed Rattlers defeated LCU Friday at noon to reach the Championship Game. The Lady Chaps must beat St. Mary's twice on Saturday to take the title.
 
LAST GAME
The Lady Chaps advanced to the championship game by defeating No. 3-seed Oklahoma Christian on Friday 3-0, after having been forced into the losers bracket with the earlier loss in the day to StMU. The No. 1-seed Rattlers defeated the Lady Chaps on Friday 9-5 to punch their ticket to the title game.

AGAINST STMU
The Lady Chaps first faced the Rattlers on February 22, 2013, winning that contest 6-3. Since then, LCU has lost 13 of 18 meetings. This season, St. Mary's took 2-of-3 games in the series played at PlainsCapital Park back in April, as well as taking the game on Friday in the second-round of Heartland Tournament play. Last year, the Lady Chaps were able to knock off the Heartland Conference Tournament host, to win the tournament and advance to the South Central Regional. They will need to defeat them twice Saturday to repeat the feat.

PRIOR MEETING VS. STMU
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 5, 2017) – The No. 2-seed Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals fall to No. 1-seed St. Mary's 9-5 but fight back to defeat N0. 3-seed Oklahoma Christian 3-0 at Rattlers' Softball Park on the campus of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas Friday to punch their ticket into the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship Game against host No. 1-seed St. Mary's scheduled to be played Saturday at 12:00 noon.
 
The Lady Chaps (37-17) gave up a run in the first inning before quickly jumping on top with three runs in the second inning starting with Adelae Vayas driving a ball up the middle to score Shelby Welch before Haley Hardison hit a ground-rule double to plate Lindzi Clemmer and Addison Ard. LCU would add another run in the third inning when Clemmer knocked in Katera Eltsosie.
 
The Rattlers (42-12) plated two runs in the fourth inning, four more in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to go ahead 9-4. Lubbock Christian managed to get one run in the seventh inning when Alyssa Hanks scored off the bat of Vayas.
 
Katlyn Holmes (7-6) started in the circle for LCU throwing 6.1 innings allowing six runs on nine hits to suffer her sixth loss of the season. Monique Garcia came in to pitch the final two outs giving up three runs on one hit in relief for the Lady Chaps. Kristi Rangel got the start in the circle for the Rattlers pitching only the first inning allowing three runs on four hits before giving way to Jordan Russell (17-6) who threw four innings only giving up one run on four hits notch her 17th victory of 2017. Ashley Mills pitched the final two innings for St, Mary's giving up one run on two hits.
