Highlights
St. Mary's ended LCU's six-match series win streak with a balanced attack that had four players with at least 10 kills in the set. Channing Hankins and Tarine Grace each had 13 kills to lead the Rattlers.
Lauren Zoller had a match high 15 kills for LCU in the loss, which extended LCU's losing streak to four matches and they fell to 0-3 in Heartland Conference competition.
Cory Jo Martin registerd her third double-double of the season with 25 assists and 15 digs. StMU's Monica Ramon led all players with 35 digs and also contributed four aces. Bree Perry notched one of two doble-doubles for the Rattlers with 45 assists and 11 digs.
How It Happened
Set One:
Lubbock Christian opened the match on a 7-3 run supported by a pair of kills from
Emily Hanaway. The Rattlers responded with a 12-2 run fueled by four kills by Channing Hankins for a 15-9 StMU advantage. LCU inched back and moved within 23-22 after a trio of errors, but StMU held off the Lady Chap rally and claimed the opening set 25-22. The Rattlers served up five aces in the opening set.
Set Two:
The Rattlers led throughout in the second set after jumping out to a 4-0 lead. LCU was held to six kills in the set, which LCU lost 25-20. Each squad had their highest set totals of errors in the set, as St. Mary's had 9 of the combined 16 attack errors in the set. St. Mary's success stemmed from Jaycie Pluenneke, who had four of her 10 kills in the match come in the set.
Set Three:
LCU turned the momentum around in the third set, which featured six lead changes and the score locked up on 12 occasions. Neither team had more than a two-point lead margin until late in the set, as LCU went on a 6-0 run to turn a 17-15 deficit into a 21-17 lead.
Hannah Thomas had a pair of kills and a block during the run, which helped LCU win the set 25-21. The two teams combined for 55 digs in the set (29 by StMU), with
Kelsie French posting 13 digs in the set. Zoller, who entered the set without a kill in the opening two sets, led LCU with seven kills in the set. Mandee Eberle led StMU with five kills in the set.
Set Four:
StMU produced the first point in the third set, and once LCU responded with the next two points (2-1), they never triled the remainder of the set en route to a 25-19 set win. LCU produced 17 kills in the set, leading to a .455 attack percentage. Zoller had a second straight solid set, with eight kills posted.
Set Five:
LCU opened the final set with a 2-0 lead via serves from
Maddie DeGuire before StMU rallied and took an 8-5 lead at the side-switch. The Lady Chaps came back to tie the set 10-10. Four of the final six points were decided by attack errors and it set up a 15-11 win by the Rattlers to win the match 3-2.
Inside the Numbers:
0-3 – The Lady Chaps, who had never opened conference play with a 0-2 record in program history prior to this season, falls to 0-3 in conference play.
1-2 – LCU fell to 1-2 in matches decided in the fifth set. Of their three conference tilts, LCU has had a match end in a different set total. Thursday marked their first five-set match in conference play.
6 – StMU ended a six-game losing streak against LCU in the head-to-head series. The Rattlers last win in the series was Oct. 19, 2013.

Leah Roberson set a career high with nine kills for LCU and posted a .316 kill percentage.
28 –
Kelsie French led LCU with 28 digs, which was her second highest dig total this season.
