Highlights
Lubbock Christian University extended their win streak to 12 Saturday with a 3-0 straight-set victory over Newman. The win streak is their best since 2008 and their 6-0 start in Heartland Conference play is their best since 2007, when they were members of the Sooner Athletic Conference. LCU's success Saturday was at the net, where they hit a season-best .411 with a whopping 53 kills in a three-set match. They assisted on 51 of them, with two setters, as
Bradi Marshall started and produced 15 assists in the opening set before giving way to
Brynn Warnack, who recorded 25 assists in two sets.
Avery Moore and
Jaiden Kennedy each notched 14 kills, with Kennedy setting a individual single-match season-high .700 hitting percentage in the match. LCU had a 53-25 advantage in kills against the Jets, who did not have any individuals with more than six kills in the match and fell for an 18
th straight match (1-20 on the season).
How It Happened
Set One:
Newman opened the match with a 9-6 lead in the opening set, but LCU battled through and went on a 12-2 run for an 18-11 lead.
Jaiden Kennedy had three kills during the frenzy, with a pair of kill contributions by
Avery Moore and
Bradi Marshall. Moore teamed up with
Ashley Vanfleet during a 5-0 run, as each had a pair of kills during the stretch, to close out the set for a 25-14 LCU set victory. LCU walloped 19 kills in the set and hit .500, with 15 of the kills assisted by Marshall. Moore led all players in the set with five kills, while teammates Kennedy and Vanfleet each had four.
Kelsie French supplied 10 of the team's 19 digs in the set.
Set Two:
The second set was the tightest played set in the match, with the score knotted up eight times and four lead changes. LCU led 23-20 before NU responded from a timeout with three straight points to tie the set 23-23. Kills by Moore and
Lauren Zoller ended the threat and LCU claimed the set 25-23. LCU produced 18 kills in the second set, with Moore leading all players with seven kills. Kennedy was right behind with six kills. Eight different Lady Chaps were in the mix to combine for 24 digs in the set.
Set Three:
The Lady Chaps put things into fifth gear in the final set. They enjoyed a 10-2 run, with
Hannah Thomas,
Leah Roberson and
Avery Moore each providing a pair of kills in the run, and cruised to a 25-10 set win to claim the match. They had 16 kills and two errors leading to a .500 attack mark in the set. Kennedy led LCU with four kills in the set. The Jets were limited to six kills.

6-0 – LCU improved to 6-0 in Heartland Conference play, which is their best Heartland Conference start in program history and their first 6-0 conference record since 2007, which was a season they went 12-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
9-5 – The win by LCU marks their second win over Newman this season (first in a conference match) and LCU improves to 9-5 all-time against the Jets. It was LCU's final match in Fugate Gymnasium in conference play, as Newman will play a MIAA schedule next season and will not join the Lone Star Conference.
.411 – LCU's attack percentage of .411 is a season high and their highest mark since they had a mark of .423 on September, 16, 2011 against Huston-Tillotson.

Avery Moore's .444 attack mark off a 14-kill performance was a career high.

Jaiden Kennedy produced a .700 hitting percentage with 14 kills and no errors on 20 attempts. The mark is the highest (at least 20 attempts) since Elissa Loynes had a mark of .708 on Oct. 31, 2009 (vs. Mid-America Christian). Kennedy's feat is the seventh best attack percentage, with at least 20 attempts, in NCAA Division II play this season.
2 – LCU had double figures in assists by two different players, as
Bradi Marshall (15) and
Brynn Warnack (25) combined for 40 assists (
Kelsie French was two shy of a career high with six assists). The last time LCU and Newman squared off is the only prior time this season in which two players had at least 10 assists.
4 – LCU had three blocks in the match and the two teams combined for four blocks, which is the fewest combined blocks total since combining for four on Oct. 29, 2016 against Texas A&M International.
12 – The win marked LCU's 12th straight victory, which is their longest since they won 22 straight in 2008. They have won 36 of 39 sets played during the stretch.
51 – LCU combined for 51 assists, which is the most in a three-set match since they had 51 on Nov. 1, 2014 against Texas Permian Basin.
