Lady Chaps Look to Rebound Saturday in Dallas

LCU Aims to Start New Win Streak after Their 12-Match Win Streak Was Snapped Thursday

DALLAS, Texas (October 19, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals lead in the Heartland Conference got a little tighter Thursday, as they ended a 12-match winning streak with a loss to St. Edward's in Austin, Texas. Saturday, they look to maintain their one-game conference lead as they face Dallas Baptist University. The match is LCU's third match of the season against DBU and the second inside Burg Center. LCU is 6-1 atop the Heartland Conference standings, with St. Mary's University a game back at 5-2.

- The Lady Chaps hold a staggering 34-4 all-time record against the Patriots. LCU opened the all-time series winning the first 23 meetings dating back to 1983. DBU won final meeting last season 3-1 (Nov. 2, 2017), ending a streak of four consecutive wins by LCU. The Lady Chaps defeated DBU 3-0 on Sept.13 in a non-conference match and 3-0 in a conference match in Lubbock (Oct. 4) to give them six wins in the prior seven meetings.
- DBU was preseason picked sixth in the Heartland Conference. They went 10-16 last season, with a 5-7 mark in conference play. They are 10-14 overall this season and 3-4 in conference play
- The Patriots are returning home after a four-game road trip, where they are 3-3 on the season (one of their three defeats was a 3-0 loss to LCU on Sept. 13).
- DBU ranks 51st nationally in blocks per set with a mark of 2.11 (second in the conference). Katie Nicholson ranks second in the conference in blocks (84) and blocks per set (1.01).
- The Heartland Conference has three teams in the top-50 nationally in total digs and the Pats rank third in the conference and 47th nationally with a total of 1,499.
 
GAME NOTES
- Lubbock Christian takes a 16-7 record into the contest and they are 7-3 in true road games this season. LCU had the nation's eighth active best win streak end with their 3-0 loss Thursday at St. Edward's.
- LCU is 6-1 in conference play this season. Their 6-0 start was their best conference start since 2007, and their 6-1 record is their best seven-match start in Heartland Conference play since a 6-1 record through seven matches to begin their 2014 Heartland Conference schedule (they went 9-1 through the first 10 games of conference play in 2014).
- In Thursday's loss, the Lady Chaps fell to 11-2 this season when leading a match in blocks (8.0 - 5.0) and 11-2 this season when leading in digs (56-55), as it was only their second loss of the season when leading each category
- Serving aces has developed into an intriguing story this season. The Lady Chaps have experienced the highs (13 aces Sept. 14 vs. Newman and on Sept. 22 vs. Northwestern Oklahoma State, which tied a program single-match high under head coach Jennifer Lawrence) and lows (0 against Southwestern Okla. State on Sept. 6) from the serving line this season. Aces per set (1.51) and total aces (114) are two of the three team statistical category LCU leads in the Heartland Conference. Maddie DeGuire leads the conference in aces per set with 0.47 (25th nationally). DeGuire leads the Heartland and is 37th nationally with 35 aces this season.
- Bradi Marshall leads the Heartland Conference and ranks 35th nationally with a conference-leading 10.84 assists per set, which ranks ninth among all freshmen. Marshall leads the team in double-doubles this season with ten, with double-doubles in five of seven conference matches played.
- Kelsie French leads the Heartland Conference in digs per set (6.19) and enters Thursday ranking 11th nationally in the category. French is 25th nationally in total digs (477) and her career mark of 2,446 ranks second among NCAA Division II active career leaders.
- Lauren Zoller leads the Heartland Conference in kills per set (3.43) and is second in points per set (3.88). Her rate in conference play in kills per set is 3.67.
- Marshall is averaging 12.0 assists per set and Zoller is averaging 3.5 kills and 4.0 digs per set in two prior meetings against DBU this season.
