Falcons Soar Late, but Chaps Still Best in the West

LCU Claims No.6-Seed at Conference Tournament and will Open Tuesday in Alamo City

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
- LCU scored the first two goals of the game in the first 20 minutes
- After UTPB two second half goals to lead 3-2, the Chaps notched a goal in the 87th minute to tie it
- Braxton Thorne had three saves and Emilio Marte recorded two goals and an assist for a five-point performance in the losing effort.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Louis Callaghan scored the first goal of the game in the eighth minute when he flicked a header off an Emilio Marti cross for his fifth goal of the season.
- Marti then notched his third point of the game when he scored a goal from the right side, his fourth of the year, to put the Chaps up 2-0 in the 20th minute.
- UTPB answered less than two minutes with two seconds left in the 21st minute for their first goal of the game.
- The Falcons tied the game in the 72nd minute on a Julius Kracke goal when he took a cross from the right post.
- The third goal of the half from UTPB came in the 85th minute when Jacob Tellez bounced a header in off an assist from Jordan Bradley and Oscar Canela.
- LCU tied the game with just 3:07 to play when Marti scored his second game the game and fifth of the season. He ripped it from 10 yards out.
- The Falcons responded with a goal with just 29 seconds left when Canela ripped home the game-winning goal.

GAME NOTES
- The win closes LCU's regular season with 24 standing points in the Heartland Conference and the Chaps took the West Division with 14 points.
- It was the highest scoring game of the year for LCU as seven total goals were scored.
- UTPB moved to 3-0-1 in the last four against the Chaps.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
5: Marti and Callaghan each close the regular season leading the team in goals with five. Marti assisting on Callaghan's goal provided him the team lead in scoring for the regular season with 12 points (Callaghan second with 11).
4: It was the fourth game this season that a Chaps player produced a two-goal game.
9: The Chaps matched a season high with nine corner kicks.
21: LCU produced a season high 21 shots and 12 shots on goal.

UP NEXT
The Chaps get geared up for the first round of the Heartland Conference Tournament as first round games are played Tuesday at 7 p.m. LCU, making their Heartland Conference Tournament debut, occupy the No.6-seed and open play at St. Mary's (No.4-seed) in San Antonio, Texas. The winner will advance to Wichita Falls, Texas to face West Texas A&M Friday in the Semifinals. LCU is 0-1 against StMU this season after a 2-1 loss on Oct. 20.
