Chaps Get their First Tournament Victory in Tournament Debut

LCU Upsets St. Mary's 2-1 and Advnaces to the Semifinals in Wichita Falls

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
- LCU made their Heartland Conference Tournament debut registering their first Heartland Conference Tournament victory in program history.
- The Chaps received first half goals from Abdou Joof and Marcelo Pacheco.
- LCU advances to the tournament semifinals, where they will face No.2-seed West Texas A&M at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Wichita Falls, Texas.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- LCU opened the game's scoring in 14th minute, with Abdou Joof getting his head on Conner Dean's cross and directing it into the net for his first goal of the season.
- Pato Botello Faz tied the game 5:15 later in the 19th minute with a header for St. Mary's.
- Richie Vaca-Cordova set up Marcelo Pacheco in the 28th minute, as LCU regained the lead. All three combined goals were notched in a combined span of 12:02.
- Once LCU took the lead, goalkeeper Braxton Thorne stopped the remaining five shots on goal to seal the LCU win.

GAME NOTES
- LCU improved to 3-2-0 all-time in conference tournament contests (1-0 in Heartland Conference Tournaments). It was their first postseason win since defeating Rogers State 1-0 in a Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Nov. 7, 2011.
- LCU was out-shot in shots on goal by a 7-3 margin, marking the third straight win with three shots on goal (two of the three have been multi-goal games).
- Joof's goal was his first goal since September 30, 2017 (vs. Eastern New Mexico).
- Pacheco's marker was his first career game winning goal and his second goal of the season (both have been scored on the road). His first goal was produced in his first game of the season (Sept. 2 at Colorado Christian).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
18: In two combined games against StMU, the Rattlers had an 18-3 advantage in corner kicks.  They had a 9-2 advantage Tuesday.
3: LCU has produced multi-goal games in three straight contests. It is the third string of three consecutive multi-goal games this season. The last time LCU had four straight multi-goal games was in October of 2014.

UP NEXT
The Chaps advance to the "final site" Heartland Conference Tournament Friday, heading to Wichita Falls, Texas to face West Texas A&M (No.2-Seed). The winner of the contest faces the winner of Midwestern State vs. Newman for the championship.
