Highlights
Lubbock Christian University had their eight-match home win streak come to an end, as they fell 3-1 in a Heartland Conference tilt against Arkansas – Fort Smith Thursday inside Rip Griffin Center.
Ashley Vanfleet had her second consecutive plus-20 kill performance with 21 kills.
Bradi Marshall also provided LCU another double-double performance with 49 assists and 16 digs. She also added four blocks and a pair of aces. Anna Demmer led UAFS in their victory with 20 kills and 13 digs to complete one of two Lions double-double, as Taylor Stoops also added 48 assists and 17 digs.
How It Happened
Set One:
The opening set witnessed the score tied on nine occasions. There was a five-point advantage with UAFS leading LCU 11-6, which maintained it's track for a 20-15 lead. LCU finally cut into the deficit with a 4-0 run to trail 21-20. UAFS responded with a 3-0 lead and served set-point leading 24-20. Three UAFS errors led to the Lions sitting on set-point for four serves and LCU tied the set at 24-24. The Lions finally put LCU away with a kill by Rachel Williams to start a 2-0 run to win 28-26. Anna Demmer led UAFS with six kills in the set.
Set Two:
Tied 8-8 in the second set, LCU's
Lauren Zoller claimed a kill to start a 5-0 run, which was a part of an eventual 9-3 run to take a 17-11 lead. UAFS called a timeout and responded with a 6-1 run to take an 18-17 lead. Vanfleet produced a kill to put LCU up 22-19, but the Lions countered with a 5-0 run. They won the set 25-23. Vanfleet had seven kills during the set for LCU. Debra Rogers led UAFS with six kills.
Set Three:
LCU fell behind early, trailing 5-2, but responded with a 10-3 run for a 12-8 lead. The teams traded points until UAFS went on a 7-1 run and took a 20-19 lead.
Avery Moore had a kill to end the sequence, which in return started a 6-0 LCU run to win the set 25-20. Demmer led all players with six kills in the set, while
Lauren Zoller led LCU in the set with four.
Set Four:
UAFS jumped ahead 10-6 and later held off an LCU comeback attempt, leading 15-14, with a 4-2 run for a 19-16 lead. LCU repeatedly rallied to get within a point, but was unable to take a lead. They trailed 24-21 and climbed back to cut the deficit to 24-23 before UAFS's Lauren Wood produced a kill to end the match. 15-1 – LCU fell for the first time this season when leading the match in kills, as they had a 55-54 edge in the category Thursday. They are now 15-1 this season when producing more kills in the match.
