Chaps Look To Ignite Offense and Avoid Sweep Sunday

Regis Pitching Has Held LCU to One Run in Three Games

REGIS (3-0)
at No.7 LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (0-3)
Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018 – 1 p.m.
Hays Field (Lubbock, Texas)
Radio: 100.7 FM The Score
All-Time Series: Regis leads 3-2

Lubbock Christian University will seek a win to avoid a four-game sweep and to find some offense, as LCU hosts Regis at Hays Field. The Chaps (0-3) have been held to one run off six hits in the three prior games of the series.  LCU has been shutout in two of their three games, marking the first time since the 2014 season in which LCU has had more than one shutout loss in a single season. They also look to avoid their first 0-4 start since 2007 and their first four-game series sweep at home since falling in four games to Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Mar. 4-5, 1994. LCU is enduring their first three-game home losing streak since April of 2015.

SCHEDULED STARTING PITCHER

LCU – Callan Johnson (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

Last season, he made 12 starts in 14 appearances and went 7-4. He had 92 strikeouts in 67.1 innings (17th nationally in strikeouts per nine innings with 12.3) and combined for 127 strikeouts in 98 innings over his two seasons at Midland.

RU – Matt Heibult (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Heibult bounced back from missing the 2016 season in 2017 with a 4-6 record and a 7.13 ERA in 15 appearances. He started in 11 games and combined for 65.2 innings pitched on the season. He averaged just over 3.2 innings pitched per six road apperances last season.

LOOKING BACK
LCU has struggled offensively at the plate, with only one run off six hits in the series. Regis has had salty starting pitching in each game of the series, defeating LCU 5-0, 4-1 and 1-0 in the three prior games of the series. Saturday's 1-0 loss went 10 innings, which marked the first time a LCU game was scoreless heading into extra innings since a contest on Mar. 3, 2017 went into extra innings scoreless (LCU won the game at St. Mary's 2-0 in eight innings). The last time a LCU game scheduled for nine innings went into extra innings scoreless was on May 13, 2011 against Northwood (Texas), which LCU won 3-0 in the 10th inning.
