Lady Chaps Open Conference Against Hilltoppers

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 20, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps softball team returns home to open Heartland Conference play against St. Edward's in a Tuesday doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus.
 
LCU LEADERS
As a team, the Lady Chaps are second in the Heartland Conference in batting average (.289) behind only Rogers State (.313). Morgan Dufour leads LCU and the conference in slugging percentage (1.107) and Lindzi Clemmer is sitting in second (1.067). Clemmer leads the team in batting average (.433) and hits (13) and is tied with Dufour to lead the Lady Chaps with six home runs each. Dufour leads LCU in runs batted in (13) and doubles (3). Megan Darling leads the team in walks with seven. Casey Ingram leads the Lady Chaps with five stolen bases. In the circle the Lady Chaps are led by Clarissa Martinez with a 1.91 earned run average. Monique Francois leads the team in wins (4), innings pitched (31) and strikeouts (32).
 
CONFERENCE OPENERS
LCU is 6-4 all time in conference openers. Under Head Coach Daren Hays, the Lady Chaps are 3-4 in conference openers. Since making the transition to NCAA Division II in Heartland action the Lady Chaps are 1-3 in conference openers with a 7-4 loss in last year's Heartland opener at home against No. 3 St. Mary's.
 
ST. EDWARD'S
The Hilltoppers are off to an 0-7 start this season. St. Edward's is led at the plate by Karolina Rodriguez with a .350 batting average. Rodriguez also leads the team in hits (7), doubles (2), home runs (1) and runs batted in (3). Reagan Carter leads the Hilltoppers in earned run average (6.07) and strikeouts (11). Olivia Burdick leads SEU with 16.2 innings pitched.
 
PREVIOUS MEETING
LUBBOCK, Texas (April 1, 2017) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps won the decisive game three Saturday 4-2 to take the Heartland Conference series over the Hilltoppers of St. Edward's University at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus.
 
The third batter of the game, Kayla Appleby grounded out to score Alex Mayfield and put St. Edward's (13-23) on top 1-0 after the top-half of the first inning. The Lady Chaps (23-12) would answer in the bottom-half of the inning when Katera Eltsosie drove a ball through the left side to plate Casey Ingram and even the game at 1-1.
 
The Lady Chaps scored one run in each the second, fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-1 lead. In the second Addison Ard came home from third base on a wild pitch. In the fifth Alyssa Hanks singled up the middle to drive in Sydney Beuthien. In the sixth Ard scored off the bat of Courtney Medina. St. Edward's added a run in the top of the seventh on a throwing error by Casey Ingram but left two runners stranded.
 
Katera Eltsosie (12-4) started in the circle for LCU and went the distance allowing only one earned run off nine hits while striking out two Hilltoppers to earn her 12th victory of the season. Lauren Slatten (6-8) got the start and also went the distance for St. Edward's giving up four runs off eight hits striking out ten Lady Chaps to suffer her eighth loss of the year.
