Lady Chaps Head to Laredo to Face Dustdevils

LAREDO, Texas (March 27, 2018)  The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals wrap-up their four-game road trip in Laredo facing Texas A&M International at Dustdevil Softball Field with the first pitch set for noon.
 
LCU LEADERS
The Lady Chaps enter the contest with an overall record of 19-9. LCU is 6-7 this season away from PlainsCapital Park. The Lady Chaps lead the Heartland Conference, hitting .289 as a team, led by KK Lopez-Lui ( leads the conference hitting 407). Lindzi Clemmer leads the team in hits (33). Clemmer and Morgan Dufour co-lead the Lady Chaps with 25 runs scored each. Dufour leads the team and the Heartland Conference in home runs with 13, which sits her fifth in the nation, and also leads the conference in slugging percentage (.926), runs batted in (49) and total bases (75). Courtney Medina leads the Lady Chaps and the Heartland Conference in stolen bases with 16 total. In the circle, Monique Francois leads LCU with a 13-3 record and a 1.83 earned run average. She also holds the most innings pitched (103.1) and most strikeouts (94), while opponents are only hitting .202 against her. The Lady Chaps head to Laredo after having swept ENMU in a doubleheader last Tuesday.
 
ABOUT TAMIU
The Dustdevils are 5-7 at home this season and are hitting .253 as a team, led by Maya Paul who is hitting .333 with a .441 slugging percentage. Cassie Cannon leads the team in hits (38), total bases (52) and runs scored (25). Brandi Giles has four home runs to lead the Dustdevils. In the circle, Texas A&M International is led by Melanie Lint with a 2.74 earned run average and six wins. Delainy Thompson leads the Dustdevils with 51 strikeouts. TAMIU is coming in following a 1-0 win over St. Mary's this past Saturday, which avoided a series sweep.

PREVIOUS MEETING
LAREDO, Texas (April 29, 2017) – Katera Eltsosie pitched one-hit ball and hit a home run and Sydney Beuthienhomered twice to help Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals close out the regular season with a 6-0 shutout win over Texas A&M International Saturday in a Heartland Conference contest at Dustdevil Softball Field on the TAMIU campus.
 
Neither team could get a run on the scoreboard through the first four innings, as the two teams combined for six hits over the span (Lady Chaps (35-16) had five hits at that point and TAMIU (18-33) had one).
 
In the fifth inning, Sydney Beuthien hit a solo-home run to get LCU on the scoreboard. Addison Ard led off the sixth inning with a blast over the left field fence before the Lady Chaps poured it on in the seventh inning.Courtney Medina led off the seventh inning with a double, followed by a triple off the bat of Casey Ingram to score Medina. Beuthien followed with her second home run of the game; a two-run bomb followed by a home run over the center field fence by Eltsosie to complete the scoring.
 
Katera Eltsosie (18-5) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps and went six scoreless innings allowing one hit. She struck out six batters and faced one batter over the minimum to notch her 18th victory of the season. Monique Garcia came in to pitch the final inning keeping the shutout intact retiring the Dustdevils in order. Delainy Thompson (12-14) got the start for TAMIU, pitching six innings and giving up five runs on eleven hits over the span to suffer her 14th loss of 2017. Sara Caterson came in to pitch the final inning and gave up one run on one hit.
