Lady Chaps Return Home to Host Rattlers

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 3, 2018)   Lubbock Christian University returns home, after two weeks on the road, to host St. Mary's at PlainsCapital Park Tuesday with the first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
 
LCU LEADERS
The Lady Chaps enter the contest with an overall record of 20-10. LCU is 13-2 this season at PlainsCapital Park. The Lady Chaps lead the Heartland Conference hitting .282 as a team, led by KK Lopez-Lui (.383), which leads the conference, as well. Lindzi Clemmer leads the team in hits (35) and runs scored (27)Morgan Dufour leads the team and the Heartland Conference in home runs with 14, which sits her fourth in the nation. Dufour also leads the conference and the Lady Chaps in slugging percentage (.908), runs batted in (35) and total bases (79). Courtney Medina leads the Lady Chaps and the Heartland Conference in stolen bases with 17 total. In the circle, Monique Francois leads LCU with a 14-3 record and a 1.70 earned run average. She also holds the most innings pitched (111.1) and most strikeouts (99), while opponents are only hitting .198 against her. The Lady Chaps return home after splitting the doubleheader with Texas A&M International last Tuesday in Laredo. 
 
ABOUT StMU
The Rattlers are sitting atop the Heartland Conference standings and are 9-5 away from San Antonio this year. StMU is hitting .270 as a team, led by Brenda Iparragu, who is hitting .339 with a .554 slugging percentage. Abigale Carney leads the team in hits (39) and home runs (5). In the circle, St. Mary's is led by Alex McLennan, with a 1.87 earned run average and 2-3 record. Staci Johns leads the Rattlers with 109 strikeouts, 130 innings pitched and a 14-5 record. StMU is coming into Lubbock after sweeping St. Edward's this past Tuesday.

THE SERIES vs. StMU
The Rattlers lead the all-time series versus LCU 16-8, having swept the three game series earlier this season (all three via walk-offs).

PREVIOUS MEETING
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 10, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals fell 5-4 to St. Mary's in extra innings Saturday in San Antonio, once again losing in walk-off fashion at The Softball Stadium in The Park on the campus of StMU.
 
The Lady Chaps (13-8, 4-5) jumped on the scoreboard quick with a bomb over the left field fence by Sydney Beuthien in the top of the first inning. The Rattlers (19-6, 9-0) answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and added another two runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead.
 
In the fifth inning Adelae Vayas doubled to drive in Annika Schwartzenberg and Kealohiokeanuenue KK Lopez-Lui hit a sacrifice fly to plate Vayas. Then in the sixth inning Beuthien singled and later scored on a throwing error by the StMU third baseman to tie the game.
 
St. Mary's led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a base hit from Alex Moreno. Two batters later Alessandra Ortiz doubled to drive in Moreno and deal LCU their third walk-off loss in a row.
 
Monique Francois started in the circle for LCU throwing 4.1 innings allowing four runs on five hits. Clarissa Martinez pitched one inning of relief for the Lady Chaps allowing no runs and only two hits. Amber Carlton (3-1) pitched the final two innings giving up one run on two hits to suffer her first loss of the season. Staci Johns got the start for the Rattlers going four innings and allowing four runs off four hits before giving way to Alex McLennan (1-1) who threw the last three innings for St. Mary's not allowing any runs and only three hits to notch her first win of the year.
