Lady Chaps Look to Capitalize in Austin

The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals are on the road in the state capital to face St. Edward's in a Heartland Conference three-game series, which opens with a doubleheader Friday starting at 1 p.m. The final game is set for Saturday at noon at Diane Daniels Field. The Lady Chaps head to Austin after sweeping St. Mary's in a doubleheader this past Tuesday in Lubbock, which has LCU sitting fourth in the conference with a mark of 11-7.
 
LCU LEADERS
The Lady Chaps enter the contest with an overall record of 22-10. LCU is 5-6 this season away from PlainsCapital Park. The Lady Chaps lead the Heartland Conference, hitting .282 as a team, led by KK Lopez-Lui. She is hitting a conference leading mark of .375. Lindzi Clemmer leads the team in hits (37). Morgan Dufour leads the team and the Heartland Conference in home runs with 14, which sits her fourth in the nation. Dufour also leads the conference and the Lady Chaps in slugging percentage (.880), runs batted in (36) and total bases (81). Courtney Medina leads the Lady Chaps and the Heartland Conference in stolen bases with 18 total. In the circle, Monique Francois leads the conference with 16 victories (10th in the nation). Francois also leads the Heartland in shutouts (6, 10th most in the nation) and strikeouts (107), while boasting a 1.57 earned run average. She holds the most innings pitched (120.2), with opponents only hitting .196 against her.  
 
ABOUT SEU
The Hilltoppers are 1-10 at home in Austin this season. SEU is hitting .248 as a team, led by Karolina Rodriguez (.345 with a .575 slugging percentage). Rodriguez also leads the team in hits (30), home runs (5) and runs batted in (14). In the circle, St. Edward's is led by Keely Frazier with a 8.06 earned run average and 1-7 record. Reagan Carter leads the Hilltoppers with 52 strikeout and Olivia Burdick leads the team in innings pitched with 80. SEU enters the series after being swept by St. Mary's on March 27th.

The Lady Chaps lead the all-time series versus St. Edward's 10-4, having swept a doubleheader earlier this season in Lubbock.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Lubbock, Texas (February 20, 2018) – Lubbock Christian University Lady Chap Monique Francois threw a no-hitter in game one for a 3-0 win and in game two the two freshman pitchers combined to lead LCU to a 9-4 win to sweep the Hilltoppers to open Heartland Conference play at PlainsCapital Park on Tuesday.
 
The Lady Chaps (8-3, 2-0) got on the scoreboard in the third inning with Lindzi Clemmer driving the ball up the middle to bring Courtney Medina home from second base. In the fifth inning Adelae Vayas added to the Lady Chap lead scoring on a throwing error by the St. Edward's pitcher. Pinch hitter K'leigh Arredondo capped the LCU scoring by drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring in Sydney Beuthien.
 
Monique Francois (5-1) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps and threw the programs 16th no-hitter (11th different Lady Chap to throw a no-hitter, first in a Heartland Conference game) facing only one batter over the minimum to earn her fifth victory this year. Reagan Carter (0-3) got the start for the Hilltoppers giving up three runs on three hits while striking out seven Lady Chaps to suffer her third loss of the season.
 
LCU got on the scoreboard early in game two with Clemmer hitting a triple to right center field to drive in Courtney Medina followed by Morgan Dufour hitting a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Clemmer. In the second inning Casey Ingram scored on a muffed throw by the SEU first baseman before Clemmer hit a three-run bomb into the wind to give LCU a 6-0 lead.
 
The Hilltoppers scored two runs in the third inning with Shelby Janda and Sara Machado each driving in a run. The Lady Chaps responded scoring two more runs in the bottom half of the inning when KK Lopez-Lui scored off the bat of pinch hitter Logan Grado and Medina drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Sara Ralston. St. Edward's added a run in the fourth inning before LCU would respond with a run in the inning when Averi Miller drew the third bases-loaded walk of the game to score Dufour. St. Edward's was able to tack on one more run in the top of the sixth inning.
 
Freshman pitcher Clarissa Martinez (2-1) got the start for the Lady Chaps in game two going four innings allowing three runs on four hits on her way to her second win of 2018. Fellow freshman Amber Carlton (1st) came in to pitch the final three innings allowing only one run on five hits and striking out one to earn her first save of her college career. Olivia Burdick (0-4) started in the circle for the Hilltoppers lasting only 1.1 innings giving up six runs on three hits to suffer her fourth loss of the year before giving way to game one starter Reagan Carter who threw the final 4.2 innings allowing three runs on four hits while walking seven Lady Chaps.
