Chaps Herd Buffs In Shutout Win

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
- Lubbock Christian University men's soccer continued their winning ways with a decisive 2-0 win over West Texas A&M University in their Heartland Conference opener Thursday afternoon.
- LCU tabbed five shots for the day on a WTAMU squad that had allowed two goals heading into the day.
- Braxton Thorne came up with a trio of saves on 11 shots faced in the Chap victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Richie Vaca-Cordova sparked the scoring for the Chaps with an absolute banger pushing the 30-yard range. The junior jumped on a loose ball and placed it in the top back corner out of reach for West Texas A&M keeper Colin Burgiel.
- Jamal Yates provided the nail in the coffin for Lubbock Christian after pick-pocketing a WTAMU defender before making his way into the box and beating the Buff goalie to right side.

GAME NOTES
- The Chap win continues a three-game shutout streak for the Lubbock Christian defense.
- Though it was the first conference matchup of the season for LCU, the win over the Buffs moves the Chaparrals to the top of the Western Division standings along with Eastern New Mexico.
- Braxton Thorne has allowed just one goal this season and moved his shutout sequence to 270 minutes.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
3: With 12 goals scored for the season, the Chap offense is averaging three goals per game through their first four contests.

UP NEXT
LCU will continue their homestand with a meeting against Eastern New Mexico University Saturday, Sept. 15. Their Western Division showdown against the Greyhounds is set for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at LCU Soccer Field.
