Lady Chaps Sweep Season Series Against ENMU

Six Solo Blocks and a 54-40 Kill Advantage Help Lady Chaps End Three-Match Losing Skid

Highlights
Lubbock Christian University rebounded from a first-set loss by claiming the next three sets to end a three-game losing skid. The division and conference win marked a sweep of the season series with Eastern New Mexico. The Lady Chaps had three players in double figures (in kills), with Avery Moore leading the way with 15 kills. Hannah Thomas and Ashley Vanfleet also had 10-kill outings to help pace LCU. They also received a double-double from Bradi Marshall, who had 41 assists and 14 digs. LCU had a 54-40 advantage in kills in the set. ENMU, who had 14 blocks (seven solo), received a double-double from Jasmine Gannon, who had 11 kills and 11 digs. Gracelyn Stubbs had eight blocks (three solo) in the match. LCU received six blocks (three solo) from Hailey Cournoyer.

How It Happened

Set One:
The were five early lead changes in the opening set before ENMU was able to get some separation off a 5-0 run to take 15-11 lead. A serving ace by Mady McCully placed LCU's deficit at 16-15, but the Greyhounds responded with a 6-1 run for a 22-16 lead. The 'Hounds claimed the set 25-20. ENMU had 15 kills in the set (Jasmine Gannon led ENMU with five kills) and had a hitting mark of .394. The Greyhounds, who went without a block Friday at Angelo State, had three blocks in the set.

Set Two:
The second set witnessed a tied-up score on 12 occasions, as neither team had more than a three-point lead leading up to the score tied 20-20. LCU then closed out the set with a 5-1 run to claim the set 25-21. LCU produced 16 kills in the set, with Vanfleet leading LCU with five kills. Avery Moore and Hannah Thomas each provided the Lady Chaps with four kills in the set.

Set Three:
LCU held the Greyhounds to nine points in the set, which is the lowest opposing point total for a set this season. The Lady Chaps opened with a 6-1 run and they also produced a 16-4 run, which included a 9-0 run and a 6-2 run within the scoring surge. Moore led LCU in the set with five kills on a 11 attempts. She also had two blocks in the set, as LCU produced five team blocks in the set (2 solo and 3 total by Hailey Cournoyer). LCU manufactured a .462 attack percentage in the set.
 
Set Four:
The Lady Chaps trailed throughout most of the set, as ENMU opened the set on an 8-3 run. LCU rallied back to tie the set at 18-18, 20-20 and 22-22, but was unable to take a lead until Thomas served an ace to put them up 23-22. The match would be tied 23-23 before Karley David-McLeroy produced back-to-back kills to claim the set 25-23 and seal the match win for LCU. Morgan Schwarz and Moore co-led LCU with four kills in the set. The Lady Chaps overcame seven blocks by ENMU in the set. Bradi Marshall had 12 assists in the set and Maddie DeGuire had nine digs.

Inside the Numbers:
3 – Hailey Cournoyer had three solo blocks, marking the fourth time this season a Lady Chap had produced three solo blocks in a match this season. It was the second for Cournoyer, who becomes the first Lady Chap since Amy Edwards in 2014 to have at least three solo blocks twice in the same season.
5 – The Lady Chaps produced five serving aces, with four different players obtaining an ace. Maddie DeGuire, who posted a match-high 21 digs, increased her team lead in aces to 27 with a pair served Saturday.
6 – ENMU was whistled for six ball handling errors. LCU opponents have been called for 61 ball handling errors this season (20 against LCU).
6 – The Lady Chaps produced six solo blocks in the match and it is the third time this season they have had at least six solo blocks in a match. Since 2008, LCU had not had at least six solo blocks in a match twice in a single season.
29 - Setter Bradi Marshall notched her 29th career double-double and she has 12 double-doubles this season and they have come over a 16-match stretch.
29 – The win was LCU's 29th in the all-time series and the Lady Chaps are now 29-33 all-time against ENMU. It was just their third consecutive win in the all-time series.

Up Next:
LCU remain in divisional play Thursday with a trip to Odessa, Texas to face Texas – Permian Basin. LCU fell in five sets to the Falcons in Lubbock earlier in the season.
