Highlights
Lubbock Christian University became the first Lone Star Conference squad to defeat No.15 Angelo State University this season, ending the Belles 11-match win streak with a 3-1 win for LCU's first win over a ranked team since a road victory over No.22 West Texas A&M on Sept. 5, 2015 (LCU had previously lost their last five matches against ranked foes). Angelo State is unable to go perfect in division play (9-1) and LCU closes their play with a 5-5 mark to clinch a berth to the 12-team field of the Lone Star Conference Championships. LCU did it behind a stellar defensive performance at the net, as they produced 13.0 total blocks, which included seven solo blocks. They held ASU to a .061 attack percentage (entered the match ranked third in the nation with a .289 hitting mark). Morgan Schwarz led LCU in points with 13.5 off eight kills and seven blocks (four solo). LCU served nine aces, with five by Maddie DeGuire. Bradi Marshall completed a double-double for a seventh consecutive match with 38 assists and 16 digs. Kailyn Gilbreath led ASU with match-high 13 kills, while LCU was led in kills by Ashley Vanfleet (11 kills).

How It Happened

Set One:
The set was tied on seven occasions, but there were several streaks in the set, as Angelo State had a pair of 5-0 runs and LCU had an 8-2 run, which was part of a 12-3 run. LCU led 22-17 before ASU's final 5-0 run, which tied the set at 22-22. Ashley Vanfleet, who led LCU in the set with five kills, had a pair of kills of LCU's final three points to claim the set 25-23. LCU held the conference's leading hitting team to a .070 hitting percentage in the set. Gilbreath led ASU in the set with five kills.

Set Two:
A potential turning-point set, LCU had leads of 18-6 and 21-11, but let them slip away as a 14-3 ASU scoring surge put them up 25-24. LCU was unable to win the set despite eight set-point serves, as the Belles won the set 25.  ASU had a 17-11 kill advantage, with five kills in the set by Gilbreath. The teams combined for 62 digs in the set, with 33 by ASU (LCU's Maddie DeGuire and ASU's Sundara Chinn each had nine).

Set Three:
The Lady Chaps redeemed themselves in the third set. They used an 8-0 run to take a 13-3 lead, which included consecutive aces by DeGuire, and closed the set on a 9-3 run, including the final five points by LCU. Avery Moore led LCU with five kills in the set. DeGuire produced three serving aces for LCU. ASU had a -.158 hitting percentage with 13 attack errors in the set.

Set Four:
The final set was the tightest set, as neither team had more than a two-point lead until LCU led 20-17, which was the largest lead by either team in the set (score was tied 11 times during the set). LCU was able to clinch the match, while ASU served trailing LCU 24-23, as Hailey Cournoyer (had six kills and four blocks in the match) placed a kill down to seal the win with a 25-23 set victory. The final set was LCU's best offensive set at the net, as they produced 14 kills (four by Vanfleet). Marshall supplied assists on 12 kills.

Inside the Numbers:
.061 – ASU's hitting percentage in the match was a season-low .061. Their prior season-low was .210 and the mark of .061 is their lowest since a .046 on Oct. 11, 2014 against Texas A&M – Commerce.
4 – Morgan Schwarz produced a career-high four solo blocks, which is the most by a Lady Chap since Jaiden Kennedy registered four against Texas A&M International on Sept. 30, 2017. It is the fourth time since 2008 in which a Lady Chap has produced at least four solo blocks in a match.
5 – Maddie DeGuire served five aces, which is the most by a Lady Chap in a four-set match since Channing Stewart completed the task on Sept. 3, 2016 against Texas Woman's. Five aces in a four-set match has only been completed three times by a Lady Chaps member since 2008.
5 – ASU had a .061 hitting percentage, marking the fifth time this season an LCU opponent has been held to a hitting percentage below .100. LCU is 11-2 when holding the opposition to a hitting percentage under .200.
6 – ASU was called for six ball-handling errors in the match and opponents have been whistled for 71 ball-handling errors this season, compared to 26 by LCU.
7 – LCU's seven solo blocks tied a season high (Oct. 1 vs. Texas A&M – Kingsville). The mark is the third time the Lady Chaps have hit the mark of seven solo blocks in a match since 2008.
9 – LCU's win was their seventh in the last nine meetings all-time against ASU, and LCU's ninth all-time win over the Belles (Belles still lead the all-time series 17-9).
11 – LCU held ASU to 11 points in the third set, which was ASU's lowest scoring set this season (ASU entered the game winning 57 of their 68 sets played on the season).
32 - Setter Bradi Marshall notched her 32nd career double-double and she has 15 double-doubles this season and they have come over a 19-match stretch.

Up Next:
LCU's 10 division matches are in the books, but conference play continues Nov.1, as LCU will host Texas Woman's to continue a three-match homestand inside Rip Griffin Center.
