Lubbock Christian University extended their win streak to three matches with a 3-2 win over Texas Woman's University behind a season-high 65 kills. LCU, matching a season-best .243 attack percentage, received a season-high 22 kills from
Ashley Vanfleet. The Lady Chaps also received double-double performances from
Bradi Marshall (55 assists, 16 digs) and
Hannah Thomas (18 digs, 15 kills).
Morgan Schwarz and
Avery Moore had 11 kills each as well for LCU. Trixie Oche led TWU with 17 kills.
How It Happened
Set One:
The Pioneers never trailed in the opening set and received seven kills in the set from Oche to take 1-0 match lead with a .25-20 set win.
Hannah Thomas led LCU with five kills in the set.
Set Two:
LCU used a 7-3 run to jump out to a 13-8 advantage. The Pioneers cut the deficit to 14-12 before LCU went on a 3-0 run to hold their distance. LCU won the set 25-21. Four different Lady Chaps had at least two kills in the set, with Thomas leading LCU with three. Tabitha Spray and Oche each had four kills for TWU.
Set Three:
The Lady Chaps produced a whopping 20 kills in the third set, with eight by
Ashley Vanfleet, but it was not enough. The score was tied on 15 occasions and as late as 22-22, but TWU closed the set on a 3-1 run to claim the set 25-23. Katy Ranes led TWU in the set with four kills.
Set Four:
LCU responded with defense in the fourth set. They held TWU to 10 kills and produced 4.0 team blocks (compared to 0.0 by TWU). Marshall (7) and
Maddie DeGuire (8) combined for 15 digs in the set. LCU led 12-11 and surged on a 13-6 run to win the set 25-17.
Avery Moore led LCU with four kills in the set. Allison Mulroney supplied the Pioneers with four of the 10 kills in the set.
Set Five:
Lubbock Christian claimed the set with a win in the decisive set and it came with an 8-2 run to close the set. Vanfleet had five kills in the set and LCU had a 10-3 advantage in kills in the set.
