CHAP SHOOTERS
Last weekend, for the first time all season, Lubbock Christian was out-shot by an opponent in a game, and it happened twice. Prior to October 3, LCU had recorded fewer shots in a game than an opponent, although the shots were even between the teams in the season-opening win over UCCS. Midwestern State outshout Lubbock Christian on October 3, winning that game 4-2. Oklahoma Christian then came to the LCU Soccer field on October 5 and out-shot the Chaps 13-12, but LCU came away with a 2-1 overtime win. Overall this season, LCU has out-shot its opponents 129-88.
SOMETHING IN THE AIR THAT NIGHT
Last weekend, LCU faced off with Oklahoma Christian looking to get back above .500 in conference play against a tough Eagle squad. They needed extra time to do it, as well as an impressive effort from their offensive leader,
Fernando Flores. The Monterrey, Mexico native opened the scoring in the game, drawing a foul in the 18-yard box and converting the subsequent penalty in the 12
th minute. It would be another 83 minute before LCU scored, and it was again Flores hitting the game-winner in overtime with an assists from
Richie Vaca-Cordova. Flores leads the Lone Star Conference and ranks No. 8 nationally with 19 points (nine goals, one assist) this season.
CHAP STATS
Several Lubbock Christian players have made appearance in the Lubbock Christian record books this season, with room to move up throughout the next nine games. Goalkeeper
Braxton Thorne recently took over the program's top spot in goalie minutes played (2611), and with seven more saves he will surpass former Chap Hunter Ganze for the all-time Chap lead in saves. Connor Dean is on the all-time list for games played, ranking ninth with 61. Adam Goodnight holds the top spot on the list with 72 games played. And Flores is making his way up the scoring lists, currently sitting tied for four in goals (12), third in game-winning goals (five) and tied for fifth in points (28).
MAKING THEM COUNT
Although they have just the fifth-most shots on goal per game in the Lone Star Conference this season at 6.22, LCU's has made their offensive chances count, posting the third best scoring average at 2.11 goals per game. The Chaps have either scored or forced the opposing goalkeeper to make a save on 45.7 of their shots so far this season, and they have scored 19 goals on 129 shots. Twelve different Lubbock Christian players have shots-on-goal percentages better than .500.

THE SERIES WITH ST. ED'S
Lubbock Christian won the very first meeting against St. Edward's, taking them down 1-0 in 2013. Since then, however, it has been almost all Hilltoppers, as they four straight contests from 2014-2017. LCU broke the losing streak last season, fighting to a 0-0 tie, but the Chaps are still looking for their second win in the all-time series.
SCOUTING DBU
- DBU is one of three LSC teams with a negative scoring margin this season, allowing 2.22 goals per game while scoring just 1.44 of their own
- The Patriots have played three opponents that LCU also took on in Oklahoma Baptist, Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Christian. The Chaps went 3-0 against those teams, while DBU posted a 1-2 record against them
- Abraham Garcia leads the DBU offense with three goals and two assists for a team-leading eight points
- The DBU men's soccer program is even newer than LCU's, as the Patriots began play in just 2012
- Tristen Olvera has handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties for the Patriots, making 28 saves while allowing 20 goals
THE SERIES WITH THE PATRIOTS
LCU and DBU have met once a year in every season since 2013, with the Chaps holding a five to one advantage in the series. DBU's only win came in 2016, when they beat Lubbock Christian 2-1 on their own field. The teams met in Dallas last season as well, with the Chaps victorious 3-0.
