LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (13-4-2) vs.
ST. EDWARD'S (12-5-2)
Friday, November 15, 2019 – 7:30 p.m.
Patriot Soccer Field – Dallas, Texas

LADY CHAP HEADERS
  • The Lady Chaps earned their spot in the LSC Championships by finishing third in the league standings with a 10-2-1 record and 31 points
  • LCU forward Haley Knesek was named the LSC Forward of the Year and Academic Player of the Year at the women's soccer awards banquet Thursday night
  • Lubbock Christian will set a new program record Saturday, playing a 20th game in a single season for the first time ever. They previously played 19 games three times
  • The Lady Chaps earned their ninth shutout of the season Tuesday against Angelo State and have now lowered their goals against average for the season to .84
  • In the regular season meeting with St. Edward's, Lubbock Christian fought to a 1-1 draw in Austin, getting a late second-half goal from Celia Duarte

AWARD CENTRAL
The Lone Star Conference held its women's soccer awards banquet Thursday night in Dallas prior to the semifinal games on Friday, and Lubbock Christian was well-represented. Haley Knesek was named the league's Forward of the Year and Academic Player of the Year while earning a spot on the All-Conference First Team. She was joined on the All-Conference First Team by Allison Scott and Hailey Phipps. Celia Duarte was selected to the All-Conference Second Team and Maddie Hoel was named to the All-Conference Third Team. Hollie Windham was recognized with Knesek on the LSC All-Academic Team.

TWO QUARTERS, PLEASE
As the No. 2 and 3 seeds in the LSC, both the Lady Chaps and Hilltoppers had to get through quarterfinal matchups on Tuesday to reach this game. LCU took on Angelo State at home fighting through 110 minutes with neither team scoring, which forced the game to be decided on penalties. ASU missed an early attempt but also made one save to force an extra sixth attempt. Arely Jiminez buried the shot for Lubbock Christian, and goalkeeper Hannah Wise got a hand on Angelo State's attempt to advance the Lady Chaps to the semifinal. St. Edward's hosted Texas A&M-Commerce in their quarterfinal matchup. The two teams were also scoreless for much of the match until Sarah Preston scored in the 89th minute for a 1-0 Hilltopper win.

SUPER STREAK
Lubbock Christian has not lost in their last nine games, dating back to October 10. The streak, which started in their regular season matchup with a 1-1 tie at St. Edward's on October 12, has included seven wins and two ties. The Lady Chaps have averaged exactly 2.00 goals per game during that streak while limiting opponents to just .44 goals against them. Knesek has scored six times in those nine games, and Scott has netted five goals as well.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS
With one of the best seasons in program history, the Lady Chaps have taken down a number of program records in 2019. The most obvious is the win total, which reached 13 for the first time ever, breaking the previous program-high of 12 set in 2012. LCU has also set a new program record in assists this season with 51 so far, breaking the previous record of 44. The Lady Chaps are also just five goals away from breaking the single-season goal record of 50 set in 2012. Defensively, Lubbock Christian's goals against average of .84, should it hold up, will break the previous record of .90 set in 2017. Lastly, goalkeeper Hannah Wise moved into first all-time on the LCU save leaderboard and now has 162 in her career.

JUST NEED TWO
In 19 games this season, Lubbock Christian has averaged 2.421 goals per game and been at their best when they score at least twice. Twelve times they have scored at least a pair of goals in a game, and they have been winners in all 12 of those games. Amazingly, LCU has not lost or even tied a game in which they scored two or more goals since October 29, 2016, when they fell to Newman 3-4 in Wichita, Kansas.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
  • St. Edward's went 10-1-2 in Lone Star Conference play this season, with the only loss coming at the hands of Angelo State
  • Hilltoppers Sarah Preston and Jenna Lipscomb were named to the All-Conference First Team, while Reagan Dykes was named the league's Freshman of the Year
  • Eli Chavez leads the team in points with six goals and four assists, but Preston has the team lead with seven goals
  • SEU's goals against average of .58 is the lowest in the Lone Star Conference
  • St. Edward's goalkeeper Annabel Sweeney has started all 18 games, making 58 saves and allowing just 11 goals

THE SERIES WITH ST. EDWARD'S
Lubbock Christian and St. Edward's have faced off 12 times since the first-ever meeting in 2013. There have been three ties in the series, while the Hilltoppers have won nine times.
