The celebration of seniors was the only celebrating inside Rip Griffin Center for Lubbock Christian University, as Tarleton State defeated LCU in straight sets (3-0) Saturday afternoon. Tarleton State held LCU to 29 kills and had a 45-29 advantage in the category. Lauren Kersey led the Texans with a match-high 13 kills. LCU's
Ashley Vanfleet led LCU with 12 kills. The loss ended LCU's five-match win streak.
How It Happened
Set One:
LCU opened the match with a 4-1 lead in the opening set. The Texans responded scoring 12 of the next 16 points and taking a 13-8 lead.
Hailey Cournoyer sparked a 4-0 run with a pair of kills and LCU tied the set 16-16.
Bradi Marshall had a kill to tie the set at 19-19 before TSU closed the set on a 6-2 run to claim the opening set. Vanfleet and teammate Jailey Cournoyer co-led LCU in the set, as each had five kills and a block. Both teams had 15 kills in the set.
Set Two:
The second set was all Tarleton. LCU was held to four kills in the set, which marked a season low for an individual set. Vanfleet had two of LCU's four kills. Tarleton was sparked by a 13-4 run during the set, and the Texans produced a .444 attack percentage in the frame.
Set Three:
There were four lead changes and the score was knotted up on 10 occasions in the third set. LCU had positive glimpses, going on a 7-2 run and receiving a pair of aces from
Karley David-McLeroy to take an 18-16 lead. The lead slipped away, as TSU, behind six kills from Kersey, closed the set on a 6-2 run to win the set 25-22 to sweep the match. Vanfleet had five kills in the set for LCU.

10-4 – The loss closed LCU's regular season home record at 10-4. The 10 home wins marks the most since a 10-1 home record in 2016 and the 10 wins matches their highest win total at home since a 12-2 home mark in 2009.
12 – LCU leads the all-time series with Tarleton 22-12, but TSU's 12
th win may have marked one of the final wins in the all-time series, as Tarleton makes the transition next year to Division I membership joining the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
