LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (11-4-1, 8-2-1) vs.
WEST TEXAS A&M (9-6-0, 8-3-0)
Thursday, November 7 – 4 p.m.
Frenship Soccer Field – Lubbock Texas
LADY CHAP HEADERS
- Lubbock Christian currently has 25 conference points with an 8-2-1 league record, sitting in third behind only St. Edward's (32) and Dallas Baptist (31)
- LCU forward Haley Knesek leads the conference with 11 goals scored and 27 total points. She also had 11 goals in 2016, but with two more assists that year, tallied 29 points
- With 11 victories this season, Lubbock Christian has matched its highest win total since 2014 when they were 11-6. A 12th win would match LCU's program record, which was set in 2012
- The Lady Chaps earned their seventh shutout of the season last weekend against UT Permian Basin and have now lowered their goals against average for the season to .88
- Junior Allison Scott had the game-winner last Saturday against UT Permian Basin, moving her into the team lead and second in the LSC in that category
TWO'S COMPANY, THREE'S A CROWD
With just a pair of games left in the regular season, Lubbock Christian currently ranks second in the Lone Star Conference with an average of 2.53 goals per game. In four games this season, they have scored exactly two goals. In another six, they have scored three or more goals. In all 10 of those contests, the Lady Chaps have been the winners. Their only win this season when scoring less than two goals was against St. Mary's on October 17. Amazingly, LCU has not lost or even tied a game in which they scored two or more goals since October 29, 2016, when they fell to Newman 3-4 in Wichita, Kansas.
WHERE THE HEART IS
After last Saturday's 3-0 victory against UT Permian Basin, the Lady Chaps are now 6-1 at home this season, matching their home win total from a season ago. The last time an LCU team had more than six wins at home was in 2015 when they went 7-0-2. In the seven home games this season,
Allison Scott has led the team with five goals and 11 total points, followed closely by senior forwards
Haley Knesek and
Hollie Windham with eight points each. The Lady Chaps are actually averaging fewer goals per game at home (2.14), but they are also limiting opponents to just a .71 scoring average in home games compared to a .88 goals against average overall.
WIN STREAK VOL. 2
The Lady Chaps are on their second extended win streak of the season, having been victorious in five straight games. Earlier this season the Lady Chaps had a win streak of six games from September 14 to October 3. If LCU can close out the regular season without losing, they will stretch their current win streak to seven games and surpass the previous one. During the current streak, the Lady Chaps have averaged 22.8 shots per game and limited opponents to just 4.6. Knesek has led the team with five goals in that span.
STUFFING THE STAT SHEET
Several Lubbock Christian players this season rank near the top of both the conference and national leaderboards statistically. Knesek is currently first in the LSC in both goals (11) and points (27), but also ranks 39
th nationally in total goals and 40
th in total points. Scott is third in the conference in total goals with nine, but is first in the LSC in game-winning goals with four. Those four game-winners are the 30
th most in all of Division II. Finally, freshman
Celia Duarte has tallied eight assists this season, which is the third most in the league, and with .57 assists per game, she ranks 18
th nationally.
