Seven-Game Road Trip Makes Stop in Wichita Friday for Lady Chaps

LCU Opens Three-Game Series With Doubleheader (They Have Split Four Consecutive DHs)

WICHITA, Kan. (March 15, 2019) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals continue a seven-game road trip Friday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader to open a three-game Heartland Conference series against Newman University.
 
LCU and NU Series Snapshot 
  • LCU leads the all-time series over NU, 16-3.
  • The two teams met five times last season (two in Wichita, Kan. and three times in Lubbock), with LCU going 4-1 against the Jets (3-0 in Lubbock).
  • LCU and NU split a doubleheader in Lubbock earlier this season (Feb. 24)
    • Megan Darling leads LCU 4-for-5 (.800) in the season series.
    • Savannah Wysocki leads LCU in hits against NU this season with five.
    • KK Lopez-Liu has five RBI against NU this season.
    • Lacey Colvin leads Newman in the series, as she is 5-of-7 against LCU.
    • Kameron Pope and Emma Eck each have three RBI against LCU.
  • LCU is 6-2 all-time against Newman in Wichita.
  • The Lady Chaps were scheduled to face NU six times this season. The only non-conference tilt scheduled was canceled due to weather on Feb. 16. The previous meeting resulted in a 23-7 LCU victory in which they set a program record with an 18-run inning.
 
Opening Thoughts
  • LCU has posted 181 runs this season, averaging 8.6 runs a game, leads all of NCAA Division II. Lubbock Christian posted at least 10 runs in their opening four games of the season (a program first) and have tacked 10 or more runs in eight of their 19 contests. They have posted at least 20 runs twice this season and posted 23 runs on Feb. 24 (vs. Newman) with a team record 18-run third inning. LCU has two of the top-five highest scoring games (single team) this season in NCAA Div. II.
  • The Lady Chaps have 14 wins in the circle, with six claimed in relief. Four different pitchers have received at least one win in relief, with Jordan Wehr leading the team with a 3-1 record in relief. Wehr also has two saves.
  • Megan Darling leads the team at the plate, leading the conference hitting .476, which ranks 47th nationally. LCU has four of the top-six individual hitters in the Heartland Conference, as K'leigh Arredondo (.433, fourth), Alivia Villarreal (.424, fifth), and Lindzi Clemmer (.417, tied for sixth) join Darling.  Villarreal ranks fifth in the Heartland Conference in RBI per game (1.05) and RBI (22) and fifth in on-base percentage (.534). Darling ranks 21st nationally in on-base percentage (.589, leads conference), fourth in runs per game (1.00), ninth in the conference in slugging (.595) and is tied for eighth in doubles (5).
  • Lindzi Clemmer leads the team with 30 hits this season and 11 have been for extra bases (she is tied for fourth the conference with six doubles). Clemmer ranks tied for second in the conference in triples (3), ranking tied for 20th nationally, and is tied for third in the conference in runs scored (25). She is 12th nationally in runs per game (1.2), ranking second in the conference behind Savannah Wysocki, who is sixth nationally with a conference-leading 1.3 runs per game.
  • The statistic of "game-winning RBI" is not an official statistic, but K'leigh Arredondo has four game-winning runs-batted-in. Savannah Wysocki and Morgan Dufour are each next with three and Alivia Villarreal follows with two game-winning RBI of LCU's 14 victories (Alexis Reed and KK Lopez-Liu each have one).
  • LCU did not have a four-hit performance last season. They have had three in 21 games this season, as K'leigh Arredondo produced four hits against Southern Nazarene (Feb. 2), Savannah Wysocki had a four-hit game against Chadron State (Feb. 2) and Lindzi Clemmer went 4-for-5 against West Texas A&M (Feb. 10).
  • Wysocki has six triples on the season (leads the conference and is second nationally) and Annika Schwartzenberg has five doubles to rank tied for eighth in the conference. Schwartzenberg leads the conference in doubles per game (0.26).
  • LCU has a 28-8 advantage in bases-loaded hits against their opponents. The Lady Chaps are hitting .491 with the bases loaded, compared to .286 for their opponents. Alivia Villarreal is 5-for-7 (.714) this season in bases-loaded at-bats and Clemmer is 4-for-5 (.800).
  • Freshman pitcher Taylor Franco ranks tied for 41st nationally with two shutouts. She has 54 strikeouts (tied for fourth in the conference) in 52.1 innings pitched, ranking her fourth in the conference in strikeouts per seven innings (7.0).
 
How is the Team Doing?
  • LCU is 14-7 this season and 5-4 in the Heartland Conference.
  • The Lady Chaps lead the Heartland Conference in batting (.361, sixth nationally), on-base percentage (.454, third nationally) and runs per game (8.6, leads nationally), doubles per game (2.0, fifth nationally), triples per game (0.48, 18th nationally), slugging percentage (.548, 12th nationally), and RBI (163).
  • On the defensive side, LCU leads the Heartland Conference in double plays turned per game (0.52, ranks 14th nationally).
  • In the circle, LCU ranks third in the conference with four shutouts.

Doubleheaders
  • LCU went 23-15 last season in games part of a doubleheader. They are 11-5 this season. They have split all four of their conference doubleheaders this season.
