Lady Chaps Closing Road Trip Facing Hilltoppers in Austin

LCU Carries Four-Game Win Streak To St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas (March 19, 2019) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals close out a seven-game road trip with a doubleheader against St. Edward's University at Diane Daniels Field.

LCU and SEU Series Snapshot 
  • LCU leads the all-time series over SEU, 12-5.
  • The two teams met five times last season (two in Lubbock and three times in Austin), with LCU going 4-1 against the Hilltoppers (2-1 in Austin).
    • Lindzi Clemmer led LCU against SEU, hitting .400 (8-for-20) with two doubles, three triples and a home run. She tallied 13 RBI in the series.

Opening Thoughts
  • LCU has posted 195 runs this season, averaging 8.1 runs a game, ranking fifth among all of NCAA Division II. Lubbock Christian posted at least 10 runs in their opening four games of the season (a program first) and have tacked 10 or more runs in eight of their 19 contests. They have posted at least 20 runs twice this season and posted 23 runs on Feb. 24 (vs. Newman) with a team record 18-run third inning. LCU has two of the top-five highest scoring games (single team) this season in NCAA Div. II.
  • The Lady Chaps have 17 wins in the circle, with seven claimed in relief. Four different pitchers have received at least one win in relief, with Jordan Wehr leading the team with a 3-1 record in relief. Wehr also has two saves.
  • Megan Darling leads the team at the plate, leading the conference hitting .476, which ranks 33rd nationally. LCU has four of the top-six individual hitters in the Heartland Conference, as K'leigh Arredondo (.423, third), Lindzi Clemmer (.417, fourth) and  Alivia Villarreal (.394, sixth) join Darling.  Villarreal ranks sixth in the Heartland Conference in RBI per game (0.9), fifth in RBI (22) and fourth in on-base percentage (.589). Darling ranks 12th nationally in on-base percentage (.589, leads conference), fourth in runs per game (1.00), eighth in the conference in slugging (.595) and is tied for ninth in doubles (5).
  • Lindzi Clemmer leads the team with 35 hits (leads conference) this season and 11 have been for extra bases (she is tied for fifth in the conference with six doubles). Clemmer ranks tied for second in the conference in triples (3), ranking tied for 28th nationally, and is fourth in the conference in runs scored (27). She is 33rd nationally in runs per game (1.13), ranking third in the conference, with Savannah Wysocki ranking eighth nationally with a conference-leading 1.25 runs per game.
  • The statistic of "game-winning RBI" is not an official statistic, but K'leigh Arredondo has four game-winning runs-batted-in. Savannah Wysocki and Morgan Dufour are each next with three and Alivia Villarreal and Alexis Reed follow with two game-winning RBI of LCU's 17 victories (Lindzi Clemmer, Breanna Anderson and KK Lopez-Liu each have one).
  • LCU did not have a four-hit performance last season. They have had three in 21 games this season, as K'leigh Arredondo produced four hits against Southern Nazarene (Feb. 2), Savannah Wysocki had a four-hit game against Chadron State (Feb. 2) and Newman (Mar. 15) and Lindzi Clemmer went 4-for-5 against West Texas A&M (Feb. 10).

  • LCU has a 30-8 advantage in bases-loaded hits against their opponents. The Lady Chaps are hitting .476 with the bases loaded, compared to .267 for their opponents. Alivia Villarreal is 5-for-8 (.625) this season in bases-loaded at-bats and Clemmer is 4-for-5 (.800).
  • Freshman pitcher Taylor Franco ranks tied for 57th nationally with two shutouts. She has 75 strikeouts (fourth in the conference) in 65.1 innings pitched, ranking her third in the conference in strikeouts per seven innings (8.0).
