Lady Chaps Facing First Ranked Foe of The Season Tuesday

LCU Wraps Up Season-Series With West Texas A&M in Canyon

CANYON, Texas (March 5, 2019) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals hit the road for only the second time this season and their trip to face No.21 West Texas A&M Tuesday marks their first against a ranked foe this season.

LCU and WTAMU Series Snapshot 
  • WTAMU leads the all-time series over LCU, 12-9.
  • LCU is 2-7 all-time against WTAMU at Schaeffer Park.
  • This season, LCU and WTAMU have split the two prior games, which were each played in Lubbock. LCU won the opener 8-7 (Feb. 10), but fell 11-10 in the previous meeting (Feb. 26).
    • LCU's Lindzi Clemmer is 7-for-8 (.875) against West Texas A&M this season.
    • K'leigh Arredondo and KK Lopez-Liu each lead LCU with four runs-batted-in during the series.
    • Alyx Cordell leads WT in the season series, as she is 5-for-7 (.714) against the Lady Chaps.
    • Shayne Starkey leads WT with five RBI against LCU in the series.
  • LCU and WTAMU were scheduled for four meetings this season, with three in Lubbock and two in the LCU Invitational, but with Mother Nature playing a factor, the teams will meet three times, with Tuesday's meeting marking the final meeting of the season. Tuesday's contest marks the final scheduled meeting as non-conference opponents, as LCU will be a Lone Star Conference member next season.
 
Opening Thoughts
  • LCU has posted 147 runs this season, averaging 9.8 runs a game, which ranks third in all of NCAA Division II. Lubbock Christian posted at least 10 runs in their opening four games of the season (a program first) and have tacked 10 or more runs in eight of their 15 contests. They have posted at least 20 runs twice this season and posted 23 runs on Feb. 24 (vs. Newman) with a team record 18-run third inning. LCU has two of the top-five highest scoring games (single team) this season in NCAA Div. II.
  • The Lady Chaps have 11 wins in the circle, with four claimed in relief. Four different pitchers have received a win, with three claiming multiple wins: Jordan Wehr (4-2), Taylor Franco (4-2) and Amber Carlton (2-0).
  • Megan Darling leads the team at the plate, leading the conference hitting .533, which ranks 40th nationally. Alivia Villarreal is not far behind, batting .477, which is third in the conference.  Villarreal ranks third in the Heartland Conference in RBI per game (1.2) and in on-base percentage (.582) and fourth in RBI (18). Darling ranks 30th nationally in on-base percentage (.634, leads conference), fourth in runs per game (1.07), eighth in the conference in slugging (.667) and is tied for 10th in doubles (4).
  • Lindzi Clemmer co-leads the team with 21 hits this season (ties Villarreal and Savannah Wysocki) and nine have been for extra bases (she is tied for fifth the conference with five doubles). Clemmer ranks second in the conference in triples (3), ranking tied for 14th nationally, and is third in the conference in runs scored (22). She is 17th nationally in runs per game (1.47), ranking second in the conference behind Wysocki, who is 13th nationally with a conference-leading 1.53 runs per game.
  • The statistic of "game-winning RBI" is not an official statistic, but K'leigh Arredondo has four game-winning runs-batted-in. Savannah Wysocki, Morgan Dufour and Alivia Villarreal each have two game-winning RBI of LCU's 11 victories (Alexis Reed has one).
  • LCU did not have a four-hit performance last season. They have had three in 15 games this season, as K'leigh Arredondo produced four hits against Southern Nazarene (Feb. 2), Savannah Wysocki had a four-hit game against Chadron State (Feb. 2) and Lindzi Clemmer went 4-for-5 against West Texas A&M (Feb. 10).
  • Wysocki has four triples on the season (leads the conference and is tied for sixth nationally) and Annika Schwartzenberg has five doubles to rank tied for fifth in the conference. Schwartzenberg leads the conference in doubles per game (0.38).
  • LCU has a 25-3 advantage in bases-loaded hits against their opponents. The Lady Chaps are hitting .521 with the bases loaded, compared to .214 for their opponents. Alivia Villarreal is 5-for-6 this season in bases-loaded at-bats.
  • Freshman pitcher Taylor Franco ranks tied for 21st nationally with two shutouts. She has 44 strikeouts (fourth in the conference) in 41.0 innings pitched, ranking her third in the conference in strikeouts per seven innings (7.5).
 
How is the Team Doing?
  • LCU is 11-4 this season and 2-2 in the Heartland Conference.
  • The Lady Chaps lead the Heartland Conference in batting (.390, sixth nationally), on-base percentage (.483, fourth nationally) and runs per game (9.8, third nationally), doubles per game (2.5, eighth nationally), triples per game (0.53, 15th nationally), slugging percentage (.579, 11th nationally), and RBI (132).
  • On the defensive side, LCU leads the Heartland Conference in double plays turned per game (0.53, ranks 21st nationally).
  • In the circle, LCU ranks tied for 21st nationally in shutouts with four.
 
Road Trends
  • LCU is 2-0 this season in road games.
  • The Lady Chaps went 7-10 on the road last season, which marked their first season in program history in which they went below .500 on the road.
  • LCU is averaging 11.5 runs per game on the road this season.
  • Alexis Reed leads LCU on the road hitting .800 (4-for-5).
  • Lindzi Clemmer leads LCU with five hits on the road (.625, 5-for-8).
  • Reed and Clemmer lead LCU with four RBI on the road.

  • The Lady Chaps are 82-61 all-time against nationally ranked programs.
  • LCU went 1-1 last season against ranked programs, with the one win registered against No.10 West Texas A&M (Feb. 27, 2018).
 
Streaks
  • Alivia Villarreal, who earlier in the season had a team-high 10-game hit streak, currently leads LCU with a four-game active hit streak (4-for-8, .500 in the streak). She has been hitless in one game this season.
  • K'leigh Arredondo has reached base safely in 15 consecutive games (every game this season).
  • Morgan Dufour has reached base safely in nine consecutive games.
 
Calling it a Career
  • 3 | Morgan Dufour ranks third in NCAA Division II among active career leaders in home runs in her career (47). Currently tied for second in Heartland history. She needs 64 career home runs for the Heartland Conference all-time record.
  • 8 | Lindzi Clemmer ranks eighth in NCAA Division II among active career leaders in runs scored in her career (160). Currently seventh in Heartland history (189 will move her into sixth) and third in program history (165 will move her into second in program history).
  • 18 | Lindzi Clemmer ranks 18th in NCAA Division II among active career leaders in at-bats in her career (574). The mark is third in program history (659 will move her into third).

  • The Lady Buffs are coming off a 40-13 season and they went 21-6 in the Lone Star Conference. They closed out their season with a trip to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament, where they went 1-2.
  • The Lady Buffs are 15-4 on the season. Since falling to Lubbock Christian on Feb.10, the Lady Buffs are 12-0 and coming off a three-game sweep over MSU Texas (Midwestern State) at home, where they are 6-0.
  • WTAMU ranks second nationally with an average of 1.8 home runs per game. They set a NCAA Div. II single-game record on Feb. 16 with 10 home runs, taking advantage of a 40-plus MPH day in Canyon, Texas. Kylee Moore is second in the nation in homers with 10 (she is coming off a two-homer game on Friday against MSU Texas.
  • The Lady Buffs offense ranks sixth nationally in scoring (8.4) and seventh in on-base percentage (.459).
  • Kylee Moore leads the nation with 31 RBI and is third in total bases (58).
  • The Lone Star Preseason Polls have WTAMU selected No.2 (out of 11).
