Lady Chaps Hosting Projected Conference Favorites

LCU Looks To Keep The Nation's Top Scoring Offense Going At The Plate

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 8, 2019) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals host their third consecutive Heartland Conference series, but it is their first three-game conference series, hosting St. Mary's University beginning with a Friday doubleheader at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus.

LCU and StMU Series Snapshot 
  • StMU leads the all-time series over LCU, 16-10.
  • LCU is 5-3 all-time against StMU at PlainsCapital Park, winning the prior two meetings.
  • Last season, LCU went 2-3 against StMU.
    • All three wins by StMU were in San Antonio, Texas and were walk-off wins by the Rattlers.

Opening Thoughts
  • LCU has posted 156 runs this season, averaging 9.75 runs a game, leads all of NCAA Division II. Lubbock Christian posted at least 10 runs in their opening four games of the season (a program first) and have tacked 10 or more runs in eight of their 16 contests. They have posted at least 20 runs twice this season and posted 23 runs on Feb. 24 (vs. Newman) with a team record 18-run third inning. LCU has two of the top-five highest scoring games (single team) this season in NCAA Div. II.
  • The Lady Chaps have 11 wins in the circle, with four claimed in relief. Four different pitchers have received a win, with three claiming multiple wins: Jordan Wehr (4-2), Taylor Franco (4-3) and Amber Carlton (2-0).
  • Megan Darling leads the team at the plate, leading the conference hitting .545, which ranks 22nd nationally. LCU has five of the top-eight individual hitters in the Heartland Conference, as K'leigh Arredondo (.447, fourth), Lindzi Clemmer (.444, fifth), Alivia Villarreal (.438, seventh) and Alexis Reed (.385, eighth) joined Darling.  Villarreal ranks third in the Heartland Conference in RBI per game (1.2) and in on-base percentage (.542) and fourth in RBI (19). Darling ranks 18th nationally in on-base percentage (.636, leads conference), fourth in runs per game (1.1), fourth in the conference in slugging (.697) and is tied for fifth in doubles (5).
  • Lindzi Clemmer leads the team with 24 hits this season and nine have been for extra bases (she is tied for fifth the conference with five doubles). Clemmer ranks second in the conference in triples (3), ranking tied for 17th nationally, and is third in the conference in runs scored (22). She is 17th nationally in runs per game (1.38), ranking second in the conference behind Savannah Wysocki, who is sixth nationally with a conference-leading 1.56 runs per game.
  • The statistic of "game-winning RBI" is not an official statistic, but K'leigh Arredondo has four game-winning runs-batted-in. Savannah Wysocki, Morgan Dufour and Alivia Villarreal each have two game-winning RBI of LCU's 11 victories (Alexis Reed has one).
  • LCU did not have a four-hit performance last season. They have had three in 15 games this season, as K'leigh Arredondo produced four hits against Southern Nazarene (Feb. 2), Savannah Wysocki had a four-hit game against Chadron State (Feb. 2) and Lindzi Clemmer went 4-for-5 against West Texas A&M (Feb. 10).
  • Wysocki has four triples on the season (leads the conference and is tied for seventh nationally) and Annika Schwartzenberg has five doubles to rank tied for fifth in the conference. Schwartzenberg leads the conference in doubles per game (0.36).
  • LCU has a 26-6 advantage in bases-loaded hits against their opponents. The Lady Chaps are hitting .481 with the bases loaded, compared to .333 for their opponents. Alivia Villarreal is 5-for-7 this season in bases-loaded at-bats and Clemmer is 4-for-5.
  • Freshman pitcher Taylor Franco ranks tied for 23rd nationally with two shutouts. She has 45 strikeouts (fourth in the conference) in 42.1 innings pitched, ranking her third in the conference in strikeouts per seven innings (7.4).

  • LCU is 11-5 this season and 2-2 in the Heartland Conference.
  • The Lady Chaps lead the Heartland Conference in batting (.389, fourth nationally), on-base percentage (.481, second nationally) and runs per game (9.75, leads nationally), doubles per game (2.4, fifth nationally), triples per game (0.50, 18th nationally), slugging percentage (.574, ninth nationally), and RBI (140).
  • On the defensive side, LCU leads the Heartland Conference in double plays turned per game (0.50, ranks 23rd nationally).
