LUBBOCK, Texas (May 22, 2019) – Lubbock Christian University junior Jaylen will compete in the 800-meter race at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at 6:20 on Friday in Kingsville, Texas.
Tryon, a Midland native, is competing at the national level for the second time this year after also qualifying for the national meet during indoor track and field season. At that meet, held in Pittsburg, Kansas, he placed 13
th with a time of 1:53.22.
In outdoor season, Tryon has competed well in the event, reaching the podium at four different meets, including a third place spot at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The junior's best time in the 800 this outdoor season came at the WT Classic and Multi in April, when he placed first with a time of 1:50.67 in Canyon, Texas. That time converted for altitude to 1:50.30 to provisionally qualify Tryon for the national meet. It is also the 13
th fastest time in Division II this year.
Texas A&M-Kingsville is hosting the Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the first time ever this year, with events taking place at Javelina Stadium. Prelims for the men's 800-meter are at 6:20 p.m. on Friday, and the event finals will take place at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday.
