LCU Went 6-4 at Home Last Season

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (0-2) vs.
SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE (1-1)
September 14, 2019 - Noon
LCU Soccer Field

CHAPARRAL HEADERS
• Lubbock Christian is hosting its home opener this weekend, taking on Southwestern Oklahoma State. Last season the Lady Chaps went 6-4 at the friendly confines last year
• LCU's only field player to see action for every minute of the season  so far is sophomore Shadiana Haney, who played in all 19 games as a freshman, racking up the fourth most field minutes in 2018
• Saturday's matchup is one of just three remaining nonconference games on the schedule, as the Lady Chaps will take on Wayland Baptist and UT Permian Basin before LSC play begins Sept. 26
• LCU has created quality offensive chances through the first two games, with exactly 50 percent of their shots going on frame. Four different players have tallied shots on goal
Celia Duarte scored the Lady Chaps' first goal of the season against UCCS. The freshman forward came to Lubbock Christian from Mansfield, Texas

HOME SWEET HOME
After beginning the 2019 season on the road, Lubbock Christian University's women's soccer team is returning to Lubbock for their home opener on Saturday. The Lady Chaps posted a 6-4 record when playing at the LCU Soccer Field, and they have a history of performing well at the friendly confines. LCU has never had a losing record on their home field under head coach Alex Denning, posting above .500 records ever since he took over the program in 2012. The 2015 season was their best at home, as LCU won seven matches with two ties and no losses on their own field.

AN EYE ON THE NUMBERS
Lubbock Christian goalkeeper Hannah Wise has been a starter for the Lady Chaps pretty much since she walked on campus. Now in her junior year, the Midlothian native is drawing close to breaking a number of program records. Wise ranks second in LCU history in saves (118), wins (17), goalie games played (38), and goalie minutes played (3403). In every category, she trails only Lauren Story, who spent time in goal for the Lady Chaps from 2012-2015.

NON-CONFERENCE
LCU will play game number three of five scheduled non-conference games this season. The non-conference slate will wrap up next weekend with games against Wayland Baptist and UT Permian Basin. Since 2014, Lubbock Christian is 17-17-4 in matchups that came outside of league play.

PURA VIDA
The Lady Chaps got an early start to their team bonding this season and played a few extra preseason games as well, taking a trip to Costa Rica for both fun and fitness. The NCAA allows a foreign tour for teams every four years, and LCU took that opportunity this season the week of August 6-12. While in the Caribbean, LCU's players took on Costa Rican professional teams twice  as well as a Costa Rican Youth National Team in preparation for their upcoming season. They also saw the island's sights and spent time on the beach, building chemistry that is important for successful teams.

ALL-TIME
This season will be the 10th in the history of the Lubbock Christian women's soccer program, which began competing for the first time in 2010. The 2018 season was just the second one below .500 in program history, as the Lady Chaps have gone 81-67-16 in nine seasons. Since moving to the NCAA Division II level (2014), LCU has posted a record of 55-39-10 (.588).

SCOUTING SWOSU
  • Senior forward Sandra Nabweteme is coming off a selection as the Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week award
  • SWOSU is 1-1 this season, with their lone loss coming at the hands of No. 7 Central Missouri
  • The Bulldogs finished the 2018 season with a 13-5-1 record, losing to Oklahoma Baptist in the semifinals of the GAC tournament
  • Head coach Mark Persson took over the SWOSU women's soccer program in 2009 and is the winningest coach in team history
  • Two Bulldog players – Alimata Rabo and Sandra Nabweteme – scored more than 20 goals each during the 2018 season, but Rabo has since graduated

THE SERIES WITH THE BULLDOGS
Lubbock Christian and Southwestern Oklahoma State met for the first time last season in Weatherford, Oklahoma. SWOSU came away winners with a  pair of goals in that contest from Sandra Nabweteme and Alimata Rabo. LCU goalkeeper Hannah Wise set a Lady Chap program record with 14 saves in the contest, and three different LCU players recorded shots on goal.
