Highlights

Lubbock Christian University had their five-match win streak stopped and they suffered their first home loss of the season, dropping a four-set match to Dixie State University in their final game of the Chap Classic. LCU fell despite an 18-kill output by Ashley Vanfleet, who also had a .317 attack mark. Dixie State was led by To'a Faleao (15) and Lauren Gammell (14), who combined for 29 kills. Gammell amassed a .591 attack percentage in the match. Three players in the match combined for double-double performances, with Hannah Thomas (12 kills, 10 digs) completing the task for LCU and Megan Treanor (15 assists, 14 digs) and Jordyn Nelson (25 assists, 12 kills) achieving the honor for DSU. LCU also received 11 kills from Avery Moore and 24 digs from Maddie DeGuire in the loss. The two teams combined for 19 aces, with Dixie State serving 11 aces.

How It Happened

Set One:
To'a Faleao produced seven kills in the opening set for Dixie State, but it was Lizzy Clark producing early for the Trailblazers. Clark had a trio of kills as part of an 11-5 start for DSU. LCU did respond with a 10-3 run, which included seven straight serves from Maddie DeGuire. Avery Moore led LCU with four kills in the set and three occurred during the LCU run, which provided the Lady Chaps a 15-14 lead. The score was tied 20-20 before Dixie St. took advantage of a trio of LCU attack errors and claimed the set 25-22.

Set Two:
LCU used an 11-5 advantage after a trio of lead changes in the set to take a 23-16, but it wasn't in the bag just yet for the Lady Chaps. Dixie State went on a 7-1 run, including a video review challenge overturning a point and DSU cut the Lady Chaps lead to 24-23. The comeback bid was extinguished on a kill by Vanfleet to give LCU the set 25-23. Vanfleet had seven kills in the set. DSU had four serving aces in the set, with two tallied by Faleao. Lauren Gammell produced seven kills for DSU.

Set Three:
Toss in the 7-1 run for DSU and a 21-4 start to the third set, it combined for a 28-5 scoring surge for the Trailblazers, who handedly claimed the third set 25-14. DSU exercised a .345 attack percentage in the set, with a 12-9 advantage over the Lady Chaps in kills in the set.

Set Four:
LCU attempted to regroup in the fourth set. They fell behind early (4-1), but back-to-back serving aces by Maddie DeGuire sparked the Lady Chaps for a 4-0 run to take a 5-4 lead. The score would be tied on 11 occasions, with it tied as late as 20-20 (LCU let a 20-17 lead slip away). A 6-0 run by the Trailblazers took the air out of the Lady Chaps sails and LCU fell in the set 25-21. Chayse Daugherty led DSU in the set with four kills, while LCU was led in the set by Vanfleet and Thomas, who each had four kills.
