Combined Effort Leads To First LSC Victory

First Lone Star Conference Contest in Program and LCU History Leads to Win

Highlights
Lubbock Christian University's Avery Moore (11), Ashley Vanfleet (11) and Hannah Thomas (10) combined for 32 kills and the Lady Chaparrals claimed a road win in their Lone Star Conference opener, which also stood as their first Lone Star Conference contest in program history. Just missing out on double figures in kills was Morgan Schwarz, who had nine kills and four blocks. Bradi Marshall posted her fifth double-double in a six-match stretch with 42 assists and 15 digs. Maddie DeGuire also contributed a team-leading 20 digs and three aces for LCU. Julie Tucker led ENMU in points (11.5) in the losing effort with 10 blocks and five kills.

How It Happened

Set One:
The opening set was filled with five lead changes and the score was tied on 11 occasions. The score was tied 20-20 when LCU ended the set on a 5-0 run to take the set 25-20. DeGuire had a pair of aces during the final run, which ended with a kill from Hannah Thomas. LCU won the set despite 6.0 team blocks for ENMU.

Set Two:
Jalee Sims had eight straight serves as part of an 8-0 LCU run to open the second set. Thomas had three kills in the run and finished with four in the set. LCU had a 14-7 advantage in kills in the set, with five tallied by Vanfleet. Marshall assisted on 13 of the 14 kills. The Lady Chaps cruised in the set, claiming it 25-13.

Set Three:
LCU let a 17-13 and 23-20 lead slip away in the third set. ENMU closed the set on a 5-0 run, with four of the five points resulting from LCU attack errors. LCU had 11 attack errors in the set, which ENMU won 25-23. On the positive, Karley David-McLeroy led LCU with six kills. She had 23 total kill attempts in the set.

Set Four:
Lubbock Christian never trailed in the fourth set. Kills by Schwarz and Thomas sparked a 4-0 lead to open the set. Trailing 17-11, ENMU pulled to within 17-14 before LCU closed the set with an 8-2 run to win the set 25-16 for the match win. Moore and Thomas led LCU with four kills in the set.

Inside the Numbers:
3 – Maddie DeGuire served up three aces in the match. She extended her team lead to 19 aces and it was her third consecutive match with three aces.
6-0 – LCU improved to 6-0 when holding opponents under a .200 attack percentage on the season. They held ENMU to a .079 attack mark.
13.0 – ENMU combined for 13.0 team blocks, with Julie Tucker recording 10 blocks. The 13.0 blocks was the most by an LCU opponent since St. Edward's posted 17.0 on Oct. 6, 2018.
22-3 – LCU improved to 22-3 all-time in program history in conference openers and are 1-0 in Lone Star Conference openers.
28-33 – The Lady Chaps improved to 28-33 all-time against Eastern New Mexico.
