FRIENDLY CONFINES
LCU's first game on their home field last weekend resulted in their first win of the 2019 season, continuing a trend of success when playing in Lubbock under head coach
Alex Denning. The Lady Chaps posted a 6-4 record at home last season and have been above the .500 mark on their own field every season since 2012 when Denning took over. Their best home record came in 2015 when they did not lose a game while winning seven and tying twice. Including Friday's game against Wayland Baptist, LCU has eight home games left on the schedule this season.
QUICK DRAW
The Lady Chaps' 2-1 win over SWOSU last weekend was due in part to an early offensive chance that was converted by
Hollie Windham. The Lubbock native netted her first goal of the 2019 season just two minutes and 28 seconds into the match against the Bulldogs, with assists on the goal coming from
Celia Duarte and
Victoria Ramirez. The goal was the earliest scored by a Lady Chap since September 23, 2017 when Cara Hunt scored just one minute and 13 seconds into a 4-2 win over Texas A&M International in Laredo.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
Lubbock Christian has scored three goals this season and four assists have been included on those scores. Together, all seven of those offensive actions have come from five different Lady Chap players.
Celia Duarte and
Allison Scott have three points each, with each player scoring a goal and assisting another. The third goal was scored by
Hollie Windham, while other assists this season have come from
Victoria Ramirez and
Delila Salmeron.
NON-CONFERENCE
This weekend's two games will be the last non-conference games Lubbock Christian plays during the 2019 regular season. Sunday's opponent UT Permian Basin is in the Lone Star Conference with LCU, but the contest will not count towards the league standings. The two teams will face off again in a league game on November 2 in Lubbock. With a 1-2 record so far this year in non-conference matchups, LCU is 21-24-4 in non-conference play since moving to the Division II level in 2013.
PURA VIDA
The Lady Chaps got an early start to their team bonding this season and played a few extra preseason games as well, taking a trip to Costa Rica for both fun and fitness. The NCAA allows a foreign tour for teams every four years, and LCU took that opportunity this season the week of August 6-12. While in the Caribbean, LCU's players took on Costa Rican professional teams twice as well as a Costa Rican Youth National Team in preparation for their upcoming season. They also saw the island's sights and spent time on the beach, building chemistry that is important for successful teams.
