Lady Chaps In Canyon Seeking 2-0 Start in LSC Play

Match is the First Rivalry on the Range Match for Volleyball

The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals complete their opening week of Lone Star Conference play Saturday facing West Texas A&M at 2 p.m. inside WTAMU Fieldhouse ("The Box""). The game also serves as a division battle and marks the opening meeting of the Rivalry on the Range, which is the rivalry series scheduled between LCU and West Texas A&M.

WEST TEXAS A&M | Saturday, Sept. 21 | 2 p.m.
- Saturday's clash marks the 42nd all-time matchup between the Lady Chaps and Lady Buffs, but the first as conference opponents. WTAMU has had the upper hand in the series with a 28-12-1 all-time series lead. The two teams split the season series last season, with LCU winning the previous meeting 3-2 in Lubbock on Oct. 30, 2018. LCU is 5-16 all-time in Canyon, Texas facing WTAMU. The Lady Buffs have won the prior two meetings in Canyon, with LCU's prior win in Canyon achieved Sept. 5, 2015.
- WTAMU went 19-13 last season, going 12-8 in LSC play. They are preseason picked fourth this season in the LSC.
- The Lady Buffs are off to a 6-2 start this season, with a 3-1 mark at home. They are coming off a 3-1 loss at home to Angelo State in their LSC opener.
- The meeting will feature a pair of first-year head coaches meeting for the first time. While LCU is coached by Mandy Polk, the Lady Buffs are coached by Kendra Potts, who previously served as an assistant coach for current Texas Tech head coach Tony Graystone while coaching at Texas A&M Corpus Christi and West Texas A&M.
- West Texas A&M enters the weekend leading the LSC in both hitting percentage (.309) and opponent's hitting percentage, holding opponents to a .097 hitting mark. The Lady Buffs have only been held under .200 in attack percentage once this season (Sept. 6 season opener against St. Mary's).
 
LADY CHAP NOTES
- The Lady Chaps head into the contest with a 6-3 record, looking for their second road win (1-1) of the season. LCU has won six of their last seven games played and are coming off a 3-1 win Friday at Eastern New Mexico.
- LCU improved to 22-3 all-time in conference openers with their 3-1 Friday win. The Lady Chaps went 4-2 in Heartland Conference openers. They went 17-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference openers prior to becoming Heartland Conference members. LCU played a "district" schedule prior to joining the Heartland Conference.
-The Lady Chaps lead the LSC in attacks per set (38.9), ranking 18th nationally. Their total attacks mark of 1,360 attack attempts ranks second in the conference. Hannah Thomas has received much of the effort, totaling 346 attacks (second in the conference) and averaging 9.9 attacks per set (ranks third in the conference). She ranks fifth in the LSC in kills (101), ranking ninth with 3.2 kills per set. 
- Lubbock Christian has served up 57 aces in their nine matches this season (seventh in the LSC). Maddie DeGuire leads the team in aces with 19, which ranks tied for second in the conference and 28th nationally. She ranks second in the conference with a pace of 0.54 per set. Bradi Marshall ranks tied for eighth in the conference with 13 aces.
- Marshall also leads the LSC in assists per set with a rate of 10.2, ranking 47th nationally.  She leads the LSC in total assists with 357 (25th nationally). In the Chap Classic in Lubbock, Marshall led the team with 162 assists at a rate of 10.8 per set. Her high on the week was a 46-assist contest (11.5 per set) in a 3-1 win over Black Hills State. She followed the tournament with 42 assists and 15 digs Friday at ENMU to complete her 21st career double-double and her fifth of the season. The five this season have come in the past six matches.
- LCU's Avery Moore and Hannah Thomas claimed Chap Classic All-Tournament honors last weekend. Moore had 41 kills (2.73 per set) with a .217 attack percentage. She also provided eight blocks and 13 digs. Thomas produced her first career double-double Saturday and completed the tournament with 57 kills (3.8 per set), 35 digs and five aces.
- Maddie DeGuire ranks third in the conference in total digs (162) and is fourth in digs per set (4.6). She has posted at least 20 digs in the last five matches, averaging 23.0 digs for the five matches. Her high during the stretch was a career-high 26 digs (8.7 per set) in a three-set straight-set win over Southwestern Oklahoma State, as LCU set a program record for digs (89) in a three-set match.
- Friday, LCU improved to 6-0 when holding opponents under a .200 attack percentage on the season. They held ENMU to a .079 attack mark. They have held their opponents to an average of .160 in hitting, which ranks sixth in the LSC.
