How It Happened

Set One:
Following a 4-1 start to the match for LCU, ASU responded with a 6-0 run to take a 7-4 advantage. LCU used a 5-2 run to tighten the deficit and tied the set at 13-13. Tied 14-14, the Belles exploded for a 9-2 run with four kills in the run by Kailyn Gilbreath, who finished with a whopping nine kills in the set. ASU used a 16-5 kill advantage, as LCU hung around in large part to four ASU serving errors and seven attack errors. LCU had only four attack errors in the set.

Set Two:
Angelo State jumped out early in the second set, opening with a 10-4 lead. LCU's Karley David-McLeroy produced a pair of kills to break a 5-1 Belles scoring run. LCU was unable to get more than a 3-0 run going and the smallest trailing margin they could garner was a four-point margin trailing 22-18. ASU closed the set on a 3-1 run to take a 2-0 match lead. Moore (4) and David-McLeroy (3) combined for seven kills in the set for LCU. Marshall led LCU in the set with seven digs and six assists. ASU had 14 kills in the set, with eight different players contributing at least one kill.

Set Three:
The third set had a competitive pace until a 6-1 ASU run, with kills provided by four different Belles, gave ASU a 12-6 lead. The Belles kept the pace until a pair of ASU errors and a pair of kills by Moore sparked a 5-1 LCU rally to cut their deficit to 14-12. Gilbreath had a pairs late in the set to trigger a 6-3 ASU run and push the Belles lead to 22-1. Moore and the Lady Chaps attempted to respond with a 3-0 run, led by a pair of kills by Moore, but 22-20 would be as close as LCU would get. ASU closed the set on a 3-1 scoring rally to claim the set 25-21 and clinch the match victory. Moore completed her trend of leading LCU in kills in every set, producing five kills in the final set. Gilbreath also had five kills for ASU.
