Maddie DeGuire posted the fifth-highest dig total for a four-set match in NCAA Div. II this season and the highest in the Lone Star Conference this season with 35 digs. The performance was one of many high marks for the Lady Chaps, who received 51 assists from Bradi Marshall, 18 kills from Ashley Vanfleet and 16 kills from Avery Moore (a .368 hitting mark). The Mustangs received a double-double performances from Bria Augustine (13 digs, 12 kills) and Sarah Campoli (39 assists, 13 digs) in the loss. The match was LCU's conference home opener and stood as their first LSC home match in program history.
How It Happened
Set One:
LCU had trailed 9-6, but they were able to bounce back in the opening set, which featured the score tied on 12 occurrences and a trio of lead changes. Tied 17-17, LCU went on a 4-0 run, which included an ace with DeGuire at serve for LCU. The Mustangs would fight back from the 21-17 deficit with a 5-2 run to trail LCU 23-22. Marshall, who had 15 assists in the opening set, was able to get a kill, which started a set-ending 3-0 run to give LCU the set win. Ashley Vanfleet led LCU with five kills in the set. The Lady Chaps produced 24 digs in the set, with DeGuire (9) and Sloan Williams (7) combining for 16.
Set Two:
Eight attack errors and four serving errors for LCU in the second set led to an easy set win for the Mustangs. WNMU opened the set on a 7-2 run and later went on a 5-0 run to take a commanding 18-9 lead. The Mustangs would claim the set 25-15. DeGuire posted 10 digs of LCU's 14 in the set.
Set Three:
The Lady Chaps went on a 7-0 run early in the third set to jump out to an 11-4 lead. Three of the points from the run were from kills by Vanfleet. WNMU climbed back, going on a 4-0 run and an 8-5 edge, to cut LCU's lead to 23-21. Vanfleet was able to end the set with her seventh kill of the set, which gave LCU a 25-22 set win. LCU had 17 kills in the set, with Moore (6) combining with Vanfleet for 13 of the kills. Marshall assisted on 15 of LCU's 17 kills in the set.
Set Four:
Jalee Sims served up an ace as part of a 5-1 start for LCU in the set. WNMU answered with a 7-0 outburst to give them the lead. LCU trailed 11-10 before erupting with a 10-1 run. Marshall served a pair of aces in the scoring surge. WNMU attempted to answer, going on a 4-2 run, but LCU claimed the win by ending the set on a 3-0 run. LCU had a 13-7 advantage in kills in the set, with Vanfleet, Moore and Hannah Thomas each with four kills for LCU.

4 – The win placed LCU with a 4-7 all-time mark against WNMU. The win was their first in series history at home over the Mustangs.
6 – Freshman Sage Chain set a career high with six kills, with four coming in the opening set.
16 – Avery Moore's 16 kills was a season high and it matches a career high. She has posted 16 kills in three matches in her LCU career.
17 – LCU had 17 kills in two of the sets Friday night. They tie as the second-most produced in a set this season. LCU's season high is 18 from a set on Sept. 7 against UCCS.
18 – Ashley Vanfleet posted 18 kills and has back-to-back matches at home with 18 kills, which matches a season high.
35 – DeGuire's 35 digs was a career high and it is the highest digs mark by a Lady Chap since Kelsie French posted 40 against St. Edward's on Nov. 9, 2018.
51 – Marshall assisted on 51 kills, coming one shy of her season high of 52 from Sept. 7 vs. Colo. Colorado Springs. The tally was her second 50+ assist of the season and the fifth of her career. The sophomore's career high is 64 from Oct. 13, 2018 vs. West Texas A&M. She had nine digs in the match, coming one shy of what would have been her eighth of the season.
