LUBBOCK, Texas (October 13, 2020) – Tuesday marks the 20
th anniversary of the dedication ceremony, which officially opened the Rip Griffin Center on the Lubbock Christian University campus.

With opening/dedication ceremonies taking place October 13, 2000, and the first sporting event, LCU volleyball hosted Wayland Baptist on November 2, 2000, the LCU athletic department will reflect back on a series of top-five countdown events of some of the favorable LCU moments inside Rip Griffin Center over the past 20 years. The facility is the home of LCU volleyball and to the men's and women's basketball programs. Each sport will countdown its memorable moments, starting Tuesday, through LCU's social media channels. They will be posted each weekday leading up to Nov. 2, marking the 20
th anniversary of the first sporting event. The memorable events were put together by a series of voting parties.
The $4.2-million dollar 51,000-square-foot facility was named after B.R. "Rip" Griffin, who was a LCU Board of Trustees member, who donated half-a-million dollars to the project. LCU has enjoyed the facility, hosting numerous events from lectures, graduations and sporting events. Each of the sports programs have hosted postseason conference, NAIA and NCAA events. The 1,950-seat venue has also served host to the Harlem Globetrotters, the Lubbock Hawks (National Women's Basketball League), Caprock Tournament (annual high school tournament) and is the current home of the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball national championship tournament.
