Former Lynn and A&M-Commerce Administrator Brings Experience, Integrity, and Conference Familiarity to Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas (July 12, 2025) - Lubbock Christian University is thrilled to announce the appointment of Austin Weyant as the new Deputy Athletic Director and Director of Compliance. Weyant will officially begin his role with the LCU athletics department on July 16.

Bringing a wealth of experience from his previous positions, Austin Weyant joins LCU from Lynn University, an NCAA Division II program in Boca Raton, Florida, where he served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. Weyant took over the compliance office at Lynn University in March 2022, where he was instrumental in ensuring that the Fighting Knight coaches and student-athletes adhered to the NCAA's guidelines for competition, rules, and eligibility.

Before his successful tenure at Lynn University, Weyant held various roles in compliance at Texas A&M University-Commerce, now known as East Texas A&M. He ultimately rose to the position of Associate Athletic Director of Compliance and Student Services in 2019. His career in athletics administration began as a Graduate Assistant in compliance and gameday operations at Shorter University, an NCAA Division II program in Rome, Georgia.

Weyant's educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management from Kennesaw State University, earned in 2014, and an MBA from Shorter University, completed in 2016.

Austin Weyant's connection to Lubbock Christian University runs deeper than his new role. During his time at Texas A&M University-Commerce, the institution was a member of the Lone Star Conference, the same conference that LCU belongs to. This familiarity with the conference landscape will serve as a foundation for his contributions to LCU's athletic programs.

Expressing his gratitude and enthusiasm for the new position, Weyant said, "I want to thank Andrew Sorrells and President Scott McDowell for this opportunity. Lubbock Christian University has a deep tradition of excellence academically and athletically, and it is an honor to join such a tremendous institution. I'm excited to get started with such a great group of staff, coaches, and student-athletes."

Andrew Sorrells, LCU's Director of Athletics, shared his thoughts on the latest addition to the team: "From our very first conversation, it was clear that Austin brings more than just compliance expertise — he brings quiet confidence, sound judgment, and a servant-leader mindset. He is a strong addition to our department and will serve our coaches, staff, and student-athletes with excellence."

LCU is confident that Austin Weyant's expertise and experience will greatly benefit the university's athletic department. The institution eagerly anticipates Weyant's contributions as he steps into his new role, supporting the ongoing success and integrity of LCU's athletic programs.
