October 25 – We take a look at some of the top LCU athletic moments over the years from October 25. Pictured is Richie Vaca-Cordova, who scored in overtime to help LCU men's soccer defeat UT Tyler in the first-ever meeting between the two programs in 2019 on this date.
Men's Cross Country
Arias
- Marco Arias took 11th placed individually as the Chaparrals placed sixth at the 2014 West Texas A&M Buffalo Stampede. Araias completed the 8K course with a time of 27:56, which was the seventh-best NCAA eligible time, as four unattached runners placed in the top 10.
Men's Soccer
- Conner Dean was the offensive hero for Lubbock Christian, scoring twice in a 2018 road win over Eastern New Mexico. Dean netted both of LCU's goals, both of which came off free kick opportunities. He opened the scoring in the 39th minute and then scored the game-winner with just over ten minutes left in regulation. ENMU outshot LCU 14-3 in the game, but goalkeeper Braxton Thorne made six saves to help the Chaps come out on top.
- It took more than 105 minutes, but the Chaparrals walked away with a 3-2 win over UT Tyler when the programs met for the first time ever in 2019. Abdou Joof opened the scoring for LCU just two
Dean
minutes into the game, but UTT moved in front with a pair of goals from Birkir Eydal. Caram Carneiro Alves then evened the score in the 20th minute, forcing overtime, where Richie Vaca-Cordova was the hero. He shot from the top of the 20-yard box, glancing the ball of the right post and in for the win.
Volleyball
- The Lady Chaps claimed two wins on this date in 1979, posting a 2-1 win over Tarleton and a 2-0 win over Austin College. The wins concluded the first day of play in the second TIAA Tournament of the season and was hosted in Alpine, Texas.
- Two of LCU's final four wins of the 1985 season were against Midwestern State, beginning with a 3-2 win on this date. The win in Wichita Falls closed out the regular season, as each team awaited their fate for an invitation to the NAIA District 8 Tournament.
- LCU won a seventh straight game in 1988 with a 3-0 win over Howard Payne in Brownwood, Texas. Stephanie Raley (Free) led LCU with 15 kills, as freshman April Parker also provided 10 kills in the winning effort.
- The Lady Chaps went five sets in 1990 to defeat Sul Ross State 3-2 in Alpine and claim their final win of the season. LCU won each of the first two sets 15-5, but fell the following two and found themselves down 13-12 in the final set before Michal Warren (Giboney), who had an 11-kill effort, served out for the LCU win. tallied the final kill for her 19th kill. She also added 27 digs for the double-double.
Ennis
- LCU claimed a NAIA District 8 win with a 3-1 final over Ambassador College for a fifth straight win in 1992. Megan Strong (Turner) had 19 digs and 10 kills, and Jody Hamrick had 15 kills and 13 digs, as each had a double-double performance in the road match in Big Sandy, Texas.
- DeAngela Hill Sanders combined for 28 kills and 22 digs in a pair of matches, as LCU defeated Huston-Tillotson and UT Permian Basin 3-0 in a 1996 tournament hosted by UTPB.
- The Lady Chaps attended the 2002 John Brown Tournament in Siloam Springs, Ark. and opened with a 3-0 win over McKendree.
- LCU returned to the John Brown Tournament in 2003 and closed the tournament with a 3-0 mark after a 3-0 win over William Jewel.
- There wasn't much separation in the set scores, but it was No. 24 LCU coming out on the positive side in three sets, as they swept Oklahoma City 3-0 at Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City. The victory was LCU's 21st consecutive overall win and 24th consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference win. Katie McGuire led the way for the Lady Chaps in the win with 12 kills and four blocks.
- Lubbock Christian returned home to Rip Griffin Center and won their sixth straight home match with a straight-set (3-0) victory over Texas A&M International in a 2018 Heartland Conference and "Dig Pink" match. Avery Moore (12) and Ashley Vanfleet (10) combined for 22 kills for LCU, who had a 46-32 advantage in kills over the Dustdevils. Bradi Marshall produced 39 assists and 12 digs for a double-double.
Women's Cross-Country
- Lubbock Christian took seventh place and had one top-20 individual finisher at the 2014 West Texas A&M Buffalo Stampede. Daisy Tuwie took 19th with a time of 24:22, missing a top-10 finish by just 27 seconds.
Windham
Women's Soccer
- For the second time in the 2018 season, the Lady Chaps took down Oklahoma Christian by a score of 6-0. All six LCU goals were scored by different players as the Lady Chaps outshot the Eagles 32-2. Both of the OC shots were on goal and saved by Hannah Wise, giving Lubbock Christian their ninth shutout of the season.
