LUBBOCK, Texas (November 2, 2020) – Lubbock Christian University's Rip Griffin Center hosted its first sporting event 20 years ago, as LCU volleyball hosted Wayland Baptist for a Sooner Athletic Conference contest, which was followed by "Rally at the Rip" after the match to introduce the 2000-2001 LCU basketball squads.
Since its opening, the Rip Griffin Center has hosted LCU sporting events, NAIA, NCAA, NJCAA and UIL postseason sporting events, including as serving as host to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship Tournament. The Harlem Globetrotters and minor professional sports teams have also called the Rip Griffin Center home. Non-sporting events, such as concerts, guest speakers and graduations have made their way into "The Rip" as well.
