The turning points were two-out at-bats for LCU, as they were 6-for-11 in two-out at-bats. More specifically, LCU's Skylar Herrera (fifth inning) and Angela Donaldson (sixth inning) each hit two-out home runs.

How it Happened:

  • LCU responded with five straight runs. Herrera reached on an infield single in the bottom of the fourth inning, and she scored on a Brooke Makemson double. The Lady Chaps continued with Herrera and Donaldson hitting two-out two-run home runs to take a 5-3 lead through six innings.
  • Things were tight in the top of the seventh inning, as Alex Moreno hit a leadoff double. She eventually scored on an error. With the tying run on base, head coach Daren Hays relied on Maxine Valdez to get the final out, which she did with a strikeout for her first save of the season.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Valdez's save preserved the win in the circle for Taylor Franco, who allowed three earned runs off five hits in 6.2 innings. She struck out eight batters.
