LCU History: Taking a Look at May 31

Baseball Topped Newman in Their '83 Title Run and Recived Top World Series Pitching Performances by Nick Pauza ('06) and Mike Marshall ('11) On This Date

MAY 31 – We take a look at some of the top LCU athletic moments over the years from May 31. Pictured is the Bob Fannin, who had a six-RBI game against Newman in LCU's 1983 title run on this date.

  • The Chaps eliminated

    Bob Notterbart (1980)
    William Jewell from the 1980 NAIA World Series with a 10-4 win against the Cardinals at Herschel Greer Stadium in Nashville, Tenn. 
  • Lubbock Christian blasted Newman (Kan.) in its second game of the 1983 NAIA World Series, winning 13-3. Bob Fannin went 3-for-4 with six RBIs, including a two-run double in the first inning. Chet Feldman also went 3-for-4, and Dan O'Connor, Randy Ledbetter and Ed Jeffrey each had two hits, with Jeffery driving in three runs. 
  • Facing the only undefeated team left in the 2006 NAIA World Series, Cumberland, the Chaps won 6-5. Nick Pauza again carried LCU, pitching a complete game and earning his 10th straight win on the mound. 
  • Mike Marshall
    Marshall
    pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out eight LSU Shreveport batters as LCU won 3-0 at the 2011 NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. The Chaps scored twice in the first inning and added an insurance run in the eighth.
