WBCA Places Lady Chaps Basketball Squad To Top-25 Team Honor Roll

LCU Notches Their Highest Team GPA

ATLANTA, Ga. (August 13, 2020) - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls were announced for the 2019-20 season and Lubbock Christian University's women's basketball team was recognized for a 3.779 GPA.

LCU's GPA ranking tied for the eighth-best team-GPA of all NCAA collegiate levels of women's basketball, which includes all universities at the NCAA Div. I, Div. II, Div. III level nominated by a WBCA-member head coach. The Lady Chaps ranked tied for fourth in Div. II, with Buena Vista (Div. III) leading all programs with a 3.865 GPA.

LCU has made the Team Honor Rolls every season since leaving NAIA in 2014, and this season's mark finishing second is their best in NCAA Division II. It is the third consecutive season LCU has finished with a GPA ranking in the top-five in NCAA Division II, and this season's GPA is their highest despite having a 3.767 in 2018-19 (ranked second-best and their highest ranking) and a 3.75 in 2017-18 (third-best).

A team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of hours attempted by all team members in the academic terms (semesters or quarters) that the season spans. Weighted grades are converted to a 4.0 scale. The GPA's are rounded to the nearest thousandth of a point. Teams are nominated for the honor by a WBCA-member head coach. A team must have a 3.000 or better GPA to be nominated.
