January 21 – We take a look at some of the top LCU athletic moments over the years from January 21. Pictured is Randy Durham, who posted six three-pointers and 30 points to lead LCU men's basketball to a win over Oklahoma Baptist in 1995 on this date.
Men's Basketball
Wilson
- Playing their first home game in more than a month, Lubbock Christian waxed Dallas Baptist 81-66 in 1986. Tony Chennault scored 31 points on 13-of-16 shooting in the win.
- Toby Rogers led the Chaps with 17 points as they earned an 83-73 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State in 1993.
- Randy Durham hit six three-pointers and scored a game-high 30 points in 1995, leading LCU to a 99-73 thrashing of Oklahoma Baptist.
- Five different Chaparrals reached double-figures and John Brown struggled to shoot the ball, especially from behind the arc, where they were 0-10 in the second half. LCU cruised to an 80-60 win in 1999.
- Taylor Wilson hit four three-pointers en route to a career-high 14 points to help Lubbock Christian upset No. 12 Oklahoma Christian 67-55 in 2010. Douglas Williams added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
- In 2016, the Chaps closed the first half on an 11-3 run, turning a deficit into a lead and went on to beat UT Permian Basin 82-71.
- Oklahoma Christian attempted to rally and pulled within one point with just three seconds to go, but Ridrell Holman knocked down both free throws on the ensuing possession to lead the Chaps past the Eagles 75-72.
Women's Basketball
- In the Lady Chaps inaugural season (1979-80), they received points from 9 of their 12 players suited up to top Trinity (Texas) 57-47 in TIAA play inside Fieldhouse. Cindy Nix and Sherry Williams co-led the Lady Chaps with 14 points each, and Darla Lynch added 13 points.
- LCU used a 20-9 scoring advantage at the free-throw line to claim a 63-56 Sooner Athletic Conference win over John Brown in 1999 inside LCU Fieldhouse. Mamy N'Kolomoni had 17 points off 6-of-7 scoring and was 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
Nix
- The Lady Chaps had another free-throw shooting advantage in 2006, outscoring Southern Nazarene 20-7 at the line (Sierra Lovorn was 6-of-6) to defeat SNU 63-52 in Bethany, Okla. LCU outscored SNU 33-20 in the second half to overcome a second half deficit in the win. Jordan Hampton led LCU with 16 points, going 3-of-4 from three-point range.
- Shamika Singleton led a quintuplet of Lady Chaparrals in double-figures with 20 points to lead No.20 LCU to 76-61 upset over No.18 Oklahoma Christian inside Rip Griffin Center in 2010.
- Emily Pool led all scorers with 25 points and Nicole Hampton added a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, as the duo led No.9 LCU to a 74-65 win over John Brown University in Sooner Athletic Conference play inside Rip Griffin Center. The win extended a 2010-2011 win streak to 12 games.
- No.1/2 Lubbock Christian University shot 61% inside the arc and produced 11 blocks in a 70-34 Heartland Conference victory over UT Permian Basin inside Rip Griffin Center, placing their 2015-16 overall record at 16-0 to match their best start in program history. They would eventually finish 35-0 with a championship title that season. Allison Szabo led all scorers with 14 points and Kellyn Schneider was 6-of-6 from the field with 12 points and also had four blocks.
- LCU knocked down a 2016-17 season-high 13 three-pointers and the Lady Chaparrals claimed a 73-64 Heartland Conference road win inside Eagles' Nest over Oklahoma Christian. Bailey Haist was 6-of-10 from long range and led LCU with 18 points.
