Highlights
Lubbock Christian University bounced back from having their seven-match win streak snapped in their prior match (at No.3 Angelo St. on Oct. 6) with a 3-1 road win at DBU Friday night. The win places LCU with a 6-1 road mark, and the Lady Chaps had four players in double figures (in kills). Jenna Lyons posted 13 kills and three blocks for 14.5 points in the win. Her point total was second on the squad behind Hannah Froeschl, who had 15 points off 10 kills, seven blocks and an ace. Aaliyah Gray (11) and Sage Chain (10) also had at least 10 kills for the Lady Chaps, who hit .262 in the match. Jalee Sims added a double-double for LCU with 39 assists and 10 digs. The Patriots were led by Halee Van Poppel (18) and Audrey Nunes (17), who combined for 35 kills. Van Poppel added 11 digs to complete a double-double.

How It Happened

Set One:
LCU had a tremendous start in the opening set, and they needed every bit of it. The Lady Chaps opened the match with a 13-3 lead despite only three points coming off kills. LCU led 17-7 before DBU went on a scoring rampage. They used a 7-2 scoring run, and even though a combo-block from Chain and Sims put LCU 24-19, the Pats went on a 5-0 run to tie the set 24-24. The Pats were unable to take the lead, as Lyons had consecutive kills, with her second coming on LCU's sixth set-point serve to clinch the set 26-24. LCU won the set despite DBU having a 17-15 advantage in kills. Lyons (5) and Gray (4) combined for nine kills for the Lady Chaps, while DBU was supplied by eight kills from Van Poppel. Sims produced 11 assists in the set.

Set Two:
LCU played from behind early in the second set. They trailed 12-8 and rallied back with a 6-2 run before eventually receiving kills from Chain and Lyons for a 17-16 advantage. LCU closed the set scoring 11 of the final 16 points in the set, including the final three (two of which came off kills from Chain) for a 25-21 set win. Chain and Froeschl co-led LCU in the set with four kills each. The set was another set won by LCU in which they were on the downside in kills, as DBU had a 16-11 advantage in kills, with Price Reeves tallying five kills for DBU.

Set Three:
The third set was tightly played, with DBU edging LCU 14-12 before an 8-0 Patriots run provided them a 22-12 lead. LCU tried to rally back, going on a 5-2 run, but a block from Sofia Black sealed the set win for DBU at 25-17. DBU hit .485 in the frame (17 kills), with Nunes powering eight kills. Gray had the upper hand for LCU in the set, as she provided five kills on eight attacks.

Set Four:
The fourth set was tied as late as 16-16 prior to Lyons producing a pair of kills to book-end a 4-1 run for a 20-17 lead. LCU led 22-18 when DBU responded with Nunes hitting two kills for a DBU 3-0 run to cut LCU's lead to 22-21. LCU regrouped with a timeout and tallied the ensuing three points, with a kill from Gray clinching the set 25-21 and the match 3-1. Froeschl led LCU in the final set with four kills. They held DBU to a .140 attack percentage in the frame.

Inside the Numbers:
10-1 LCU's win moved them to 6-1 on the season. With LCU 4-0 at home and now 6-1 on the road, LCU improves to 10-1 in non-neutral site matches.
4-4 DBU had a 64-50 advantage in kills and had more kills in each of the four sets. LCU moved to 4-4 this season when their opponents have more kills.
0-7 The Patriots had seven serving errors and LCU did not have a serving error. It is the second time this season LCU did not have a serving error, and prior to Oct. 2 (a match against Texas A&M-Kingsville in which LCU did not have a serving error), LCU had not had a match without an attack error since Sept. 29, 2017. LCU has two serving errors combined over the past three games, while their opponents have combined for 15 over the same span.
1-5 The Lady Chaps won their first match of the season in which they lost the third set. They had been 0-5 when losing the third set this season.
7 Hannah Froeschl had seven blocks (one solo), matching a career high and completing the task for a third time this season. No other Lady Chap has matched Froeschl's total mark this season.
10 LCU's Jalee Sims notched her 10th double-double of the season and it was her 20th of her LCU career.
11 Chloe Menard co-led LCU with 11 digs, which matched her career-high totals for a third time.
13 Jenna Lyons 13 kills were a season-high total, and her three blocks matched a career high.
16-3 Along with improving their all-time series mark to 37-4 against DBU, LCU improved to 16-3 all-time playing DBU in Dallas.

Next Up:
LCU moves to "Little D" Saturday, facing Texas Woman's in Denton with a 2 p.m. opening serve of a Lone Star Conference match.
