How It Happened

Set One:
TWU had a trio of 3-0 runs late in the opening set, eliminating LCU leads of 15-11, 16-14 and 21-17. LCU, leading 21-20, used a pivotal timeout, as they responded with a kill from Froeschl and an ace from Sims for a 23-20 lead. The Lady Chaps, who had a 5-0 set trailing 17-16 in the frame, captured the set 25-22. Froeschl led LCU in the set with four kills, and all four were compiled over the span of LCU's final eight points in the set. LCU had three serving aces and TWU had four service errors, helping LCU receive seven points in the set off serves.

Set Two:
LCU's pivotal timeouts continued in the second set, which had eight lead changes and the score tied up on 12 occasions. Trailing 18-17, following a 6-2 Pioneers run, LCU called a timeout and followed with a Jenna Lyons kill to spark a 4-0 run for a 21-18 lead. LCU called another timeout following a TWU run, as TWU was about to serve their first set-point of the set and leading 25-24. LCU responded from the timeout with three points off a 4-1 run stemming from LCU blocks, and LCU won the set 29-27. There were six set-point serves in the frame, with LCU claiming the set on their fifth set-point serve. Sims provided 10 digs in the set for LCU. TWU lost the set despite five kills from Addison Mulroney.

Set Three:
TWU controlled the third set tempo after a 13-2 scoring run built a 20-13 advantage for the Pioneers. Sims ended the run with a kill and it started a 4-0 LCU run. LCU was unable to cut the deficit any further and TWU won the set 25-20 behind a 16-10 kill advantage. Lyons pounded six kills in the set for LCU, while TWU received 10 assists, four kills, two aces and two blocks in the set from Bailey Wozniak.

Set Four:
It looked as if TWU gained momentum off the third set victory, opening the fourth set with a 5-0 lead, but LCU called a timeout and returned with a 4-0 run to trail 5-4. A 5-1 LCU run, highlighted by a pair of kills from Sage Chain and Aaliyah Gray, helped give LCU a 10-9 lead for their first lead in the set. LCU had 18 kills in the set (Sims had 14 assists) and produced a pair of 6-2 runs, including ending the set on a 6-2 run, during the set to clinch the match with a 25-20 set win. Aaliyah Gray had seven kills in the final set.
